Famous Shipwrecks of the Deep, [Thursday, Period One, 9/16]
By now, Ariel had managed to finally figure out that the bird she'd found in Ms. Pitt's office was not just some random bird, but Ms. Pitt herself. That...was a little embarrassing to discover, especially when one considered how much time she'd spent babbling to that bird of the last week, and Ms. Pitt probably now knew far more about Ariel than she ever wanted to know, but now it was time to step up to the plate and serve her duties as TA in the most important way.
"Hi, everyone!" Ariel bounced in front of the class. "Ms. Pitt is a bird right now; I'm pretty sure she'll get better, but she isn't yet, so I get to hold class today! Today we're going to talk about the SS Andrea Doria, which was a big Italian ocean liner that sunk in 1956, and I have a bunch of papers with all the technical details on it. It collided, boom!, with the MS Stockholm from Sweden, which is a totally infamous maritime disaster. Most of the lifeboats became unusable and a lot of people died, which is really sad, but it could have been a lot worse, because, luckily, improvements in communication and stuff like that helped so that emergency response could happen faster!
"Now, the wreck is about 160 feet under, and, working with Ms. Pitt's notes and my own imagination, I've worked up a really cool simulation where we can go explore it without even any equipment," because who wanted to be bogged down by all that? Certainly not Ariel, who was way too used to just being able to swim right in, "but there's just one thing!"
Here, Ariel pushed the button that dropped them into her oxygen-rich underwater simulation and she pointed to a great big hulking thing that seemed to be....snoring?
And this is where the singing started:
"Ssh please don't wake the whale
Ssh please don't wake the whale
Don't jiggle his fins
Don't tickle his tail
Ssh don't wake the whale
I told him a story and kissed him good night
I gave him a drink then I turned out the light
The water is calm and the day is complete
Oh don't make a sound ‘cos he's almost asleep
Ssh please don't wake the whale
Ssh please don't wake the whale
Don't jiggle his fins
Don't tickle his tail
Ssh don't wake the whale
His spout has stopped spouting, his big eye is closed
His fins are fatigued and he's starting to doze
All creatures who sleep on the deep ocean floor
All snooze in the sea, how sweetly they snore
Ssh please don't wake the whale
Ssh please don't wake the whale
Don't jiggle his fins
Don't tickle his tail
Ssh don't wake the whale
Ssh don't wake the whale
Ssh don't wake the whale
Don't jiggle his fins
Don't tickle his tail
Ssh don't wake the whale
Ssh don't wake the whale!"
As if she hadn't at all just broken out into a song in front of the whole class, Ariel giggled, waving a hand, and started to swim forward. "Well, come on, guys! Let's go! And don't wake the whale!"
[[ slow OCDis on the way did not wake the whale! ]]
