Beaching It [Week 6, Period 5, Wed. 8/11]

When the class arrived in the Danger Shop they would find their teacher prepared for them with two bare feet in the sand and sunglasses in place. Yes, he'd gotten dug out of his shallow sand grave since last week. Along with the usual beach equipment, John had also gotten the computer to cough up buckets of golf balls and golf clubs at the class' usual beachy spot.

"So, I'm betting some of you are at least over the whole movie thing since Monday, God knows I am, so we're gonna find a new way to release any residual weekend stress. And no, I don't mean talking about it, do I look like your shrink?" John thought he was too entertaining to be a shrink, but that was only because he'd been made to talk to Heightmayer once too often.

"Anyhow, this--" John lifted a golf club "--is a golf club. You hold it like so and swing it with the intent of hitting this tiny ball really far." John demonstrated, going so far as to hold up a golf ball before dropping it on the green pad at water's edge and taking a massive swing at it. Sure his form could use some work, but he was combining tanning with a makeshift driving range. Perfection was not the goal here. "Great way to relax. Quiet way, too. Of course, you can always say screw it to the golfing and go swimming or suntanning, just uh, try to stay out of range, okay? Good!"

Cara stared. They were supposed to hit a little ball with a stick?

Effy Stonem, daddy long-legs.

Effy had herself a ball and a club. Not that she was using either just yet. Far too busy aimlessly staring out towards the horizon.

Look, it was a miracle she'd pulled herself out of her funk enough to actually be here and remember to put on pants. Getting properly involved in the class was still a little beyond her.

Alex was going to have some trouble doing this one handed what with the arm sling he was already over. He did try and take some whacks one handed but the ball was going nowhere fast.

Kitty might have been frowning a little during the lecture. For all her dancing, she wasn't really like, coordinated with the sports stuff, so this was going to go badly for her. This had to be revenge for her giggling last week.

Hitting balls with sticks had little appeal to Leia, so she chose instead to stretch out in the sun and relax.

Kitty had a club. She had a ball on the ground in front of her. She hit the ball in front of her with the club. Or, she tried. The ball didn't actually go anywhere because she didn't actually hit it. Oops.

She frowned, and tried again, even yelling "Fore!" this time in case it helped.

Aaaaaand at least she hit the ball this time, but it was probably a good thing she'd yelled a warning because she had no idea where the ball went, but it wasn't forward. Hopefully it didn't hit anyone.

Um, no. There was no hitting balls with sticks for Helen today, thank you very much. Instead she stretched and out relaxed in the sun with a good book.

Cara had briefly considered doing the exercise, but in the end the ridiculousness of it all had won out over the desire to hit things and she was sprawled out on the sand instead.

Azula shrugged and picked a club, she wasn't particularly stressed but she was gaining appreciation for this class all the same.

When she was in the other universe the constant gloom had taken a toll on her, Azula was determined to make up for it and stretched on the sand, taking in the heat of the sun.

Hitting a little ball with a stick.

Ariel could not be happier.

Okay, maybe she could be happier if she could actually hit the ball and make it go more than just a few pathetic inches.

But, whatever, she was still having fun.

On the contrary, Rose was not human this week. Rose was never human.

She did enjoy being normal though and also trying to hit the balls as far out as possible.
