Competitive Cooking - Wednesday, Period 3 [8/4]

Piper's goal was simple. She wanted to assign something fairly easy in the hopes that class would end a little early. The reason? She was heading home for a few days as soon as class was over. Not that there was a rush or anything since she did know multiple people who could teleport.

"Hey, I'm assigning something fun this week. I want you to pair up and make something that involves chocolate," she told the class before giving a short lecture about baked goods. "So, it can be anything you want. Chocolate tends to make anything better."

Though as soon as she finished saying that, she regretted it. Maybe she should have shown a movie instead.

Oooh, chocolate was one of Cassidy's favorite things and she was pondering making double chocolate brownies and perhaps adding some flavoring to a decorative frosting...

Chocolate? Hmmm. Hinata looked thoughtful as she considered what she could possibly make.

Hoshi was definitely a chocolate fan. She was eagerly looking forward to sampling everyone's creations. Really, you couldn't do badly with chocolate, right?

"Need a partner?" Peter asked the girl he'd yet to work with. "I'm not much of a choco-holic, so I'm not gonna be great on ideas this week."

Tara was in a mood for brownies. Maybe she'd get all fancy and put fruit in them. She gathered the ingredients for raspberry brownies, moving slowly in case anybody felt like joining her.

"Would you like some help?" Rilla asked a little shyly.

"Sure," Tara said, with an equally shy smile. She shifted at the workstation to give Rilla room to join her. "Have you ever m-melted chocolate?"

[identity profile] rilla-myrilla.livejournal.com 2010-08-04 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Rilla shook her head. "I'm not really allowed in the kitchen at home," she admitted. "Though I'm not as bad as Karla!" she tacked on hastily.

Tara looked distinctly dubious about that news. "How about I melt the chocolate, and you measure and mix the flour and things?" she asked. "It ... might go faster that way."

"I think so too," Rilla said with a relieved smile. "I can crack eggs, too. I'm not entirely hopeless any longer."

Cassidy grinned at him. "I'm a big time chocolate lover so I have plenty of ideas."

"OH, good," Tara said, with a light, nervous laugh as she broke the chocolate into the saucepan. "I'm, um, always a little surprised how many people didn't cook at home. My mom made me learn, y'know, pancakes and hamburgers and stuff."

"Susan?" Tara repeated, glancing over. "Is she your sister?"

"She's our housekeeper," Rilla said. "She used to help mind us when we were younger, as well."

"That sounds nice," Tara said cautiously. Kennedy had her a little more comfortable with the idea of servants, but it was still strange with her. "It sounds like she's almost family, huh?"

"She's been with our family since Jem was born and he's going into his first year of medical school in the fall," Rilla replied happily.
life_inshadow: ([pos] pretty + amused)

Re: Cook/Bake

[personal profile] life_inshadow 2010-08-04 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
"That sounds sweet," Tara said, but she was distracted watching the chocolate and butter. Were they supposed to bubble like that? She stirred it mroe and turned down the heat.

"Medical school, wow. Your family must be so excited."

"Father is over the moon," Rilla said. "He says Jem has the hands of a born surgeon."

Oh, yes, two chocolate fans. Angela kind of loved Piper for this class.

Like Hoshi... she figured people couldn't really screw this one up. Could they?

"And what ideas are these, big time chocolate lover?" Peter asked. Partially because he didn't know her name.
