Journalism Class - Monday October 24

Spider is stalking back and forth behind his desk, cigarette clamped firmly between his teeth and looking exceedingly irate. He continues to do this, despite nearly tripping over the cat twice, and determinedly ignoring the increasingly frantic chorus of 'ribbits' from beneath the corner of his desk as the cat creeps ever closer. Once most of the class seems to be present, he turns on them.

"Today is the day when the campaign drawn from your homework assignment last week is due to swing into gear. You have all week to get reactions from the student body and, yes, even from various parents this weekend. Today's class is cancelled so that you can begin with your publicity campaign."

Turning, he resumed pacing. "Tomorrow we'll be doing a class project with the assistance of Professor Dream. I expect full cooperation with the Professor and a concrete effort on your part to make this experiment a success. If things go well, I'll be inviting other professors to help demonstrate various points on interview procedure, observation and research."

As the cat pounced and frogs poured from beneath his desk, Spider strode grimly on. "Everyone is reminded to keep up with their attendance and their homework. My homework policy is extremely lenient, considering that almost all classwork is extra-credit and can be used in place of your actual assignment as long as you remember to note in the assignment itself that this is what you are doing. This policy has been discussed often and both classes and homework are all easily accessible from my information page. I ask very little of you and failing to keep to my somewhat minimalist standards means that not only will you fail, you will be barred from ever re-enrolling in one of my classes. I am extremely serious about this, particularly because it is more work for me and my Assistants to assign, grade and keep track of all this than it is for you to show up twice a week and turn in homework approximately once a week or do the occasional class assignment."

He rounded on the class, looking suddenly tired. "I am extremely disappointed in some of you, and I would ask that if you are not interested in doing the work or in showing up for class that you drop now. There is no point in further wasting my time or yours. For attendance credit, please sign the roster on my desk and if you wish to drop my class simply make a note there. I will fill out the appropriate paperwork and hand it in to the Dean along with your current grade." He took a deep breath and pinched at the bridge of his nose. "I expect to see everyone's campaign at least begun by tonight... and in the meantime, enjoy yourselves as best possible."

*signs roster*

Uh, Professor? We're pretty much ready to go with our campaign, I think. Except I don't know if House has agreed to be our sponsor or not...

Veronica signs the roster because it can't hurt to have extra credit.

[ooc: so - to make sure i understand this clearly - you want us to make posts where we hang out flyers, etc around the school?]

Phoebe sets down her paperwork to sign the roster, and then begins checking off who has attended class. She looks in no hurry to leave.

John signs in and makes a mental note to run off copies of the posters and flyer for his group's campaign.

"He did," Rory calls. "Sorry, George. He agreed to it, but I need to go by the clinic when he's working to get an offical endorsement. I have the unofficial one on my phone, if you want to hear it."

Duce signs in, a small, beatific smile on her mouth as she reflects on how well her group's project had come along.

As Spider's tone changed to one of tired lament, she watched him carefully, and tried to get a good angle on the cat. The cat, strangely, seemed to be a somewhat accurate barometer of Spider's actual mood.

George smiles, relieved. "Thanks, Rory. I was getting worried."

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2005-10-24 03:33 pm (UTC)(link)
Rory nods. "I would've let you know sooner, but it's been a really crazy weekend." She shakes her head. "Do we have posters or anything like that?"

Chihaya flies in and drops into a desk to open his notebook. He had homework to catch up on. He tucks away his copy of the school newspaper (http://www.livejournal.com/community/fhightimes/4871.html) that carried the ad for his group's project, quite proud of it actually and puts the final touches on the next phase of the group's activity.

Logan signed the roster.

[identity profile] deadlikegeorge.livejournal.com 2005-10-24 03:37 pm (UTC)(link)
"Sort of." George says with a shrug. "I mean, yes, we have posters. I need to run the copy by Angela and have everyone review the work before I get these printed."

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2005-10-24 03:39 pm (UTC)(link)
Rory nods emphatically. "Is there anything I can do? I seriously would've taken care of more, but Dr. House only got back to me yesterday, and Parker had to be rushed to the clinic, and Logan was a bunny..." She sighs, and shrugs helplessly.

[identity profile] deadlikegeorge.livejournal.com 2005-10-24 03:47 pm (UTC)(link)
George smiles in understanding. "It was a pretty crazy weekend for me, too... The entire week leading up to was a minefield." She propped her chin on her hand and sighed. "No one ended up a bunny, but I had this project, the newspaper deadline, and some other drama to hash out."

((You want me to email the "posters" to you?))

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2005-10-24 03:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Rory rolls her eyes. "Bunny boy is back to normal, thank God, but yeah - drama everywhere. Plus I was on that field trip yesterday, and ended up acting funny in at least three different ways that I recall."

[Go for it. I'm one of the people approved for the @ fandomhigh addresses, so go ahead and send it there. And I remember you being a photoshop wizard, so yay!]

Jake shuffles in a little later, and drops down beside Chihaya. "Hey, did you get the revised poster-y thingy?"

Xander signs in and sits down next to Logan, still a bit on edge from last night's photoshoot. "Have you heard from anybody about Parker? Is she okay?"

[identity profile] marieann-d.livejournal.com 2005-10-24 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
Rogue signs in and sits next to Veronica. "I guess we ought to get started, huh?"

[identity profile] marsheadtilt.livejournal.com 2005-10-24 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
"Yeah, I don't know where the rest of our group is, but Jack dropped off his posters and Jessica got our faculty endorsements, so I guess we're good to go."

[ooc: you have aim? want to plan this out?]

"I wrote a radio spot," Angela offers.

She passes around pieces of paper. On them, it reads, "James Dean. Kurt Cobain. Janis Joplin. Everyone cool dies young. Want to up your chances? Want to look really cool while doing it?

Say yes to suicidal risk-taking. Say yes to smoking."

[identity profile] auroryborealis.livejournal.com 2005-10-24 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
"Oh, I like it!" Rory exclaims happily. "I mean - it's depressing, but very well-written. Go Angela!"

[identity profile] deadlikegeorge.livejournal.com 2005-10-24 04:19 pm (UTC)(link)
George grins. "Nice."
chasingangela: (Default)

[personal profile] chasingangela 2005-10-24 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
"Thanks. I was kind of going for depressing," Angela says. "Glad it worked. I'll take it down to the radio station later. What, um, what day should it run?"

[identity profile] deadlikegeorge.livejournal.com 2005-10-24 04:23 pm (UTC)(link)
((Just sent the posters your way. More like banners, really.))

((Posters sent.))
