Leadership for Social Change - Period 7

"Today we're discussing secret headquarters!" Dr. Horrible declared. "Why 'secret', you ask? If our cause is just, then what need do we have to hide from the world? That is an excellent question.

"When you are trying to overthrow the dominant paradigm, it is inevitable that you will face opposition. Some may object to your goals. Others may find fault with your techniques. It is simply easier for all involved if you have a secure place to plan your activites. Also, if you have a good scientist on your team - and you should - you have industrial espionage to worry about.

"I want you to draw up a plan for your own headquarters. Here are a few references to get you started. Don't worry about architectural details or cost right now. This is a creative exercise. I want to see your imaginations flow.

"Here's a few key points you may want to include -
Perimiter - Some kind of physical barrier. Moats are old-school, but effective, and they're an excellent place for sharks and piranhas. Walls are good. Electrified fences are easy to install, though rough on the power bills.
Guards - Dogs, sharks - pretty much anything scary with teeth works well. You'll want a number of human guards, too. Uniforms are good, but I recommend not having any helmets that cover their faces. All guards should be clearly identifiable from a distance.
Physical security - An alarm system is good. Built-in traps are better. I suggest an identifying device of some kind, such as retinal scans, DNA samples or ID cards.

"Once you're safely inside your headquarters, the rest is up to you. Do you want science labs? Armies of robotic sharks? Gym and spa? Maybe a coffee bar and food court."

He offered them drawing paper, magazines, scissors, glue sticks, popsicle sticks, a box of Legos, a couple of erector sets and a number of other modable toys and tools for drawing and building.

[OCD coming up.]
