Private Investigations: The Essentials [Monday, Period Four]

"Now sometimes," Jake began, once everyone had assembled, "as strange as it may seem, folks aren't terribly forthcoming when ye wants to get information out of 'em and ye tells them you're investigating a murder or some insurance fraud or a kidnapping or what have ye."

"Which brings me to today's topic: lying. Now I know I know, some of yous are probably dead-set against or maybe uncomfortable with doing such things, but sometimes it's neccessary to avoid being punched in the face or other... undesirable outcomes. So we're gonna play that two truths and a lie game, and I wants you to try and guess each others' lies."

[ooc: did I forget it was Monday? Yes, yes I did. I had Grand Plans to get this up last night. Oops. ~~hold for~~ OCD up.]

sith_happened who I stole the format of the class from. I needed something interacty but that didn't absolutely hinge on me being around, since I'm running around all AHHHH LAST MINUTE THINGS TO DO BEFORE I LEAVE.

Assuming I get to leave. Stupid airport.

Jake couldn't hardly get away with not giving an example, so:

"I been married once, I've been arrested for murder, and I have a teenage daughter."

Ben Skywalker

Ben had absolutely no problems with lying. At all. To anyone.

Thank you, Jacen, for that.

Ben took a deep breath, put on his most innocent expression, then said, "I'm the youngest in my family, I'm named for my father's best friend, and I never had a pet growing up."

Diana Hansen

"You're too young to have a teenage daughter." Diana informed him.

Jake raised an eyebrow at her. "I'm thirty-one," he pointed out. "That's plenty old enough."

Diana considered her options. "I have a brother, I've been to every continent, and I love chocolate." So they were a bit boring, everything else she came up with was a bit insane.

Diana did the math in her head. "She'd have to be barely teenage and you would have had to be very young." She retorted.

It was just a school assignment, so Ben wasn't going to rummage around in his teacher's mind to find the truth.

"You weren't arrested for murder," he guessed.

"Tinny's sixteen," Jake said with a grin. "And my niece. Light of mt life, she is. My sister weren't too much older than she was when she was born, though."

Harper Finkle

"Wrong!" Jake announced smugly. "A fella tried to shoot me with an antique gun. Didn't work out so well for him." He didn't really feel too bad about that whole incident. After all, the gun had been pointed in Jake's face at the time.

Diana took the chance to look very, very smug.

"Yeah, it's generally best to have the last in killing technology when it's projectile based," Ben said. "A sword's less likely to jam up on you."

That's not at all creepy, Ben. Really.

Lindsay Weir

Bruce Wayne

The only thing Bruce found unsettling about lying was the fact that this wasn't going to be two lies and a truth, or perhaps three lies.

He'd live with that minor disappointment, though.

"I have five different black ties in my cloest, I was raised in part by a former British Secret Service agent, and I routinely sneeze with my eyes open," Bruce offered.

Bruce thought about it for a moment before saying, "I say you never had a pet."

Bruce had no reason to doubt a person's statement of love for chocolate, and having a sibling was common enough, but the every continent thing seemed a little far fetched for a teenager. Even he hadn't been to Antarctica. "I'm going to say you haven't been to every continent."

"Don't ask why I was in Antarctica." Diana informed him. "Or if my parents knew where I was. Try - feel free to try again." She caught herself at the last moment.

But that made him want to ask why she was in Antarctica. Fine. Bruce would soldier on. "I will. You don't like chocolate?"

"Who doesn't like chocolate?" Diana asked rhetorically. "I do however, only have an older sister."

"You have less or more black ties in your closet?" Diana tried.

"Exactly five black ties. I have several more in other colors," Bruce said. "Want to try again?"

"He was actually an American Secret Service?" Diana did try again.

"What makes you think that?" Ben asked.

"No, British. Long since retired, of course," Bruce said. "So I can sneeze with my eyes open, but I do it extremely rarely."

"Would you accept 'you just don't seem like pet person'?" Bruce asked.

Ben laughed. "I don't seem cuddly?"

"You could be a snake or lizard owner. Cuddliness isn't a prerequisite there," Bruce mused.

"Close," Ben said with a grin. "I had a giant insect."

Momoko Akatsutsumi

Momoko had mixed luck with lies. On the one hand, she'd almost started an interplanetary war because she'd lied about having a boyfriend. On the other hand, she easily lied to keep her identity as Blossom a secret back home.

Ah ah. She bit her pen and tried to come up with her choices.

"That just sounds painful." Diana informed. "And we're apparently both good at fooling the other."

Momoko didn't like hers, but she bounced to her feet and read her list:

"I was a famous model before I came here, I work for my government, I am sometimes assigned as a bodyguard.

"Mr Doyle?" Momoko grinned as she approached. "I wanted to apologize for not being in class last week. I had to go home for a holiday. Were there handouts or something that I could get?"
