Home Ec is Outrageous!; Monday, Period Five [ 06/14 ].
"Good afternoon, eager students of mine!"
Aquaman stood at the front of the class, the dry erase board marked boldly with today's lesson and with a small armada of fishbowls in front of him; inside each, swimming in lazy, casual circles, were a variety of goldfish.
"With the recent events of the weekend, I almost considered postponing today's lesson for one about the proper care and maintenence of one's laundry, but, not only am I sure you'd like to move on from that ordeal, but today's topic is really too important! The family is the very crux of every household! And while I hope you've still got some time before you need to worry about settling down with little kiddies, preparation is often half the battle! I myself have a son, Arthur Jr! He's just about a teenager himself, so the road's probably just about to get bumpier."
On that note, Aquaman turned toward the board and lifted his marker.
"Life affords no greater responsibility, no greater privilege, than the raising of the next generation." C. Everett Coop was written with the requisite squeaking strokes of his pen.
He took a step back to admire the words of wisdom.
"So!" Clapping his hands, he did a turn to face the class again. "Today, we're going to watch a film about the adventures inherant in being a parent! Happiness is one of the most important elements to a well-run household, and happiness goes with family and love! But before we settle in for that, let me introduce you to this week's assignment! Congratulations! It's a baby fish!"
Aquaman chuckled, clearly pleased with himself and this idea. "Come on up, and each of you claim your adopted son or daughter for the next week! A fish, generally, is far less demanding of you than a real child, it's true, but this is going to be more than just feeding them and keeping their water clean! I expect you to interact with this fish as you would a real child; talk to it, care for it, love it and treat it well! Don't let it die, which, for goldfish, is more difficult than you'd think! And don't just go an replace it with a new one. Believe me, I'll know. I'll know a lot of things about how your week with your fish went, from the guppy's mouth itself, as they say!"
"So come claim your fish, get to know him or her a little better, and have watching the film be your first activity together as a new family! I've brought plenty of popcorn and fish flakes!"
[[please wait for the slowly approaching OCD has arrived! Go fish! ]]

And a fish had never been a pet at home. There had been far too many kittens running around Ingleside for the fish to be considered anything more than a midday snack.
So she looked a little dubiously at the fish and wondered just how much talking she was going to have to do this week. To a fish.

Gills and nail polish don't actually go well together, did you know that?
So...yeah. I spent the entirety of my elementary school years fishless. For good reason.

And then there were the guppies. I can't talk about the tragedy that befell the guppies, but it was EPIC (for an eleven-year-old).

When he got back to his seat, he waved a hand over the bowl dramatically. "I hereby dub thee 'Nachtfische'!"
