Maritime Safety, [Monday, Period Three]

Bond had informed his class to meet him at the Danger Shop for today's class. When they arrived, they found themselves in a small boat on the open sea.

"Good morning, class," Bond greeted them from his position in the stern of the lifeboat. "As you can see we've had a bit of a mishap at sea, but luckily, we all made it to this fully-stocked lifeboat before the ship went down." He took a moment to explain the lifeboat and the kinds of equipment they would find on board.

"Your task today is to discuss, or otherwise communicate, various potential strategies you could employ to ensure you all survive until rescue arrives. I will, however, point out that the first person to suggest eating each other will be taking a dip in the ocean soon thereafter."

"If you need some ideas about how not to behave, we also happen to have a portable television playing a movie to that effect."

He's serious about tossing anyone who suggests cannibalism off the boat.

Possibly they're more receptive to the cannibalism idea.

I totally saw a sci-fi version of Lifeboat once, man it was weird.

Those! Ariel recognized those! She'd seen them plenty of times, but she'd never been so close to one that was completely intact. It was fascinating to find out what sort of things went on with those particular boats...and a little morbid to think about the fact that she'd explored so many in ship wreckages....

Which was why she was going to try not too think about that part. Eeesh.

It wasn't that Ariel was stuck for ideas; on the contrary, she had a ton of them! But discussion was a little difficult for her at the moment, and, besides, movies fascinated her, so a lot of her attention was going that way.

Rose wasn't going to go straight for the cannibalism idea, but, hey, if it came down to it...

Kyle Reese

"We'll have to ration any food and water we have," Kyle started them off. "We'll need shelter from the sun and wind and we're going to need to figure out if we can use the sea water and get the salt out of it to drink, because we won't have enough."

Kyle gave her a look. No, he didn't know what she was thinking, but he could guess it was something worthy of a smart ass. He shook his head.

Rose raised her eyebrows at him, smirking just a bit at that shake of his head. "Have a problem there, Reese?"

"We're not eating anyone," Kyle insisted.

"I'm not saying it's the first plan or anything..." she protested.

Kyle looked at Bond. "I don't think he's kidding about throwing you over the side." That was more of a challenge than a warning.

"He can try," Rose decided. "But if I'm going over, you're going over."

That was more of a threat than a challenge.

"You'd take me down with you? Even after I told you what was coming?"

"I already knew what was coming," she pointed out with a quick grin. "I'm just thinking it'd be fun to dunk you."

"I'd ask if you always went looking for trouble like this, but I know the answer's yes. You'd fit in with my unit at home."

Rose glanced over at him, a little pleased by the statement. "Oh yeah? How'd that go anyway? You came back so that part's good obviously."

Kyle shrugged. "I got re-assigned to Derek's unit. We made some progress."

Mmmm, Rose remembered Kyle's hot older brother. He could come back to Fandom anytime.

"Gotta be good to be fighting with your brother again," she commented.

"It was," Kyle said, actually sounding happy about it. "The Reese boys work best together. We blew up a whole town a few weeks before I left. That takes some effort."

Rose grinned at him. "Effort and a lot of other things. I wanna hear about how you blew it up. D'you set specific charges or what?"

He leaned back against the side of the boat. "Had to sneak around for three days putting all of the charges in place. Most in the sewers. Got to a safe distance, set them off and the whole town sunk into the ground and got eaten up by a fireball."

"Well, hey, if you ever have to make sure something's totally destroyed, sink it into the ground and have it eaten by a fireball," she teased. Not that she was any less impressed by the act.

"It's harder for the things in the fireball to escape if you bury them first," he explained. "A few factories went down with them, which is good news."

Rose nodded seriously. "Sounds it. You guys are a good team."

"We're a good unit. Derek won't accept anyone not keeping up."

For half a second, she wondered if it'd be easier if the guardians were like that. None of the politics and BS, just if you could keep up or not. It didn't sound bad.

"And now you're back and in a very small boat."

"I'm on a boat," Kyle conceded. "Big change from a few months ago." He peered up at the sun. "Warmer too."
