Functional French, Tuesday, Period 2

Class had been directed to meet in the danger shop today, and the shop itself was set up to resemble the main hall of a large, contemporary train station.

"Bonjour," Henry said once the group was assembled, shouting a bit to be heard over the noise of trains and NPC bustle. "Welcome to the Gare Saint Lazare. Here, have a vocabulary sheet. Your goal today is to find out a few things -- you want to find the next train to Le Havre and buy a ticket for it, and you want to find out where the nearest Métro station is and how to get there. The room's been programmed so the simulated people will only speak French at you, but they will speak slowly and repeat themselves until you get it." Unlike real people in an urban train station anywhere, but this was only the second week of class.

"Once you've done that -- get a snack, get a magazine, people-watch. I'm here if you need me."

And then he sank onto a bench from which he could keep an eye on all six students.

Your mission is to find the train to Le Havre, get a ticket, then figure out how to get to the Métro. French-speaking NPCs are totally moddable.

Henry didn't program in trains that go anywhere, so if you go out to a platform you'll find a train endlessly waiting there. Otherwise, anything you might find in a big train station is up for modding.

It wasn't the first time Rilla had experienced the Danger Shop, but the gremlins and zombies had been so bizarre that she hadn't really focused on how something like this came to be.

Now, though, she was holding her hat with one hand as she gazed around the train station with enormous eyes.

Walter would never believe her letter.

It took Jono a minute or two of just awkwardly shifting his weight from foot to foot for him to reason to himself that he was standing on a busy platform of people who weren't real.

Okay, awkward agoraphobic moment had passed. He could proceed to look over the sheet with all of the handy French words on it, now.
