Flight and Flying [Tuesday, May 18]

"Today we're going to continue with land-based transportation," Anakin said as he swept into the flight shed. He pointed to the flight simulators. "These have been set up as speeder bikes, which go up to 400 kilometers an hour and can be equipped with laser cannons." He pointed to the right hand simulation. "This one has been set up for target practice if you are comfortable with such an exercise. In this simulation, you will find yourself on a forest moon. In the left hand one, you're in a planet-wide city that makes the worst Los Angeles traffic look like a day at the beach."

He smiled at them. "Please don't hit a tree or a building. If you do it accidentally, there will be mocking. If you do it on purpose there will be detention. You may begin."

You're on Coruscant, a planet that is covered with buildings that climb for hundreds of miles. It's been centuries since anyone has seen the surface. The traffic is highly regulated, but it's also moving very, very quickly.

Feel free to pair up (one person rides behind the other) and chat as you speed through the city.

Fly in the forest [Advanced]

Go 400 kilometers an hour through redwood trees Totally Alien Trees, For Real. If you get going fast, prepare to have some seriously sharp reflexes. You can also two on a bike, if one of you would like to be a backseat driver. There are targets lit up on trees as you whip past, should you also wish to practice shooting.

Bruce hopped in the simulator that wasn't equipped with guns, thankyouverymuch. Bruce was fairly experienced on a motorcycle so once he adjusted to maneuvering in another dimension - which took some time, admittedly - it went pretty smoothly.

Aside from some annoyed drivers behind him as he was getting up to speed (literally and figuratively), it was a good run.

Bruce started going through the trees pretty quickly, but not quite at suicidal speeds. He did slowly work his way up to those speeds, though, surviving a number of close calls with gigantic tree trunks.

He ended up finishing with a very respectable time and, more importantly, no crashes.

Leia eagerly hopped right on the speeder bike and began to zoom through the city. She was pleased that she seemed to have a very natural feel for this.

Leia felt cocky enough to give the advanced run a try. Her reflexes were good, and she was having a great time zipping along and shooting at the targets until a branch from a tree she'd just blasted fell and clipped the back end of her speeder, causing her to lose her balance and fall off. Ooops.

Calvin eyed the speeders warily, not quite ready to get on. Normal bikes spent enough time trying to kill him.

"This is so cool!" Asuna leapt on to the bikes. The simulation thing was also ten times awesome too!

She navigated around the buildings starting out slow (to get the hang of it). This was the best class she's ever had!

Things were going really, really fast now and her long hair trailed behind her. And there were a lot of trees appearing out of nowhere! But she was learning fairly quick, especially after last class!

But the best thing? She gets to shoot things here!

As a test run Goose got onto the bike and began the course. He didn't find it difficult at all and managed to maintain quite a reasonable speed.

Going extremely fast and the chance to shoot things? Goose was there.

He pushed the speeds as fast as he could go, which was fast, luckily his reflexes allowed him to miss crashing into anything.
