Summer might have been a tad bit excited about teaching a summer workshop. If it wasn't obvious by the smile on her face.

When the students had settled in, Summer hopped off the desk she'd been sitting on and began. "Welcome to Maritime Mammals. I'm Summer Pitt, your teacher for this seven week long workshop." The smile might have brightened just a bit. "Feel free to call me Summer or Miss Pitt, whatever you're most comfortable with." She was easy like that.

"So, since it's our first day and all, why don't we start off with some introductions? Your name, your grade and what you consider to be your favorite mammal from the deep, should suffice. If you have any questions, feel free to ask me now or at the end of class."

"We'll be experiencing ocean mammals up close and personal along the way, get a feel for their living habits and things of that nature. A more hands-on approach, if you will. There might even be a dolphin watching excursion and aquarium visit planned. Oh! If anyone's interested in a TA position, see me after class," Summer explained. "So, introductions. Why don't we start those now?"

Princess Ariel

As Ariel listened to the lecture, she tried to look innocently enraptured by the whole topic, but she knew better. She knew she'd picked this class knowing that she'd totally be a ringer for it. Some of her best friends, after all, were maritime mammals.

She just hoped that it didn't make her homesick. And, besides, it might be really fascinating to see what humans thought about these animals she knew and loved so well!

Ariel would have loved to have been able to go on all those things, but, alas, she and her silence could not. So she just gave Miss Summer an apolgetic smile, shrugging her shoulders as she touched her throat and hoped to convey that it was essentially completely useless.

But she could at least try to answer the favorite part. She loved whales, of course! They were so big and friendly and absolutely fascinating to swim with, and so her arms moved to try to give off the impression of something big and majestic, before they swam through the air in the graceful imitations of how they moved through the water. And then, suddenly, she moved her arms as if bringing them up to surface, with a big animated splash, and then she imitated water coming out of the top of her head like through a blowhole.

Watching whales surface was another thing she loved about them, and not just because it meant going to the surface like she wasn't supposed it.

Nobody Owens

For the longest time, Bod's only experience with the ocean and the animals within had been through pictures. With the island being surrounded by water, he found himself more interested in what actually might be down there and couldn't resist a class like this.

"I'm Nobody Owens," he said before immediately continuing, "but I go by Bod for short. It's my real name and my parents didn't hate me. They were just..."

Ghosts.

"...unusual. I'm a sophomore and I don't really know much about the sea and the mammals that live in it but I've seen pictures of seals and they look like fun animals."

Peter Bishop

Princess Leda

Stupid Leander and his insistence that she get over her fear of the creatures of the deep.

Leda's face was unreadable as she reminded herself that she liked dolphins. They weren't creepy.

"I'm Leda, a senior now I guess, and...I like dolphins."

"We'll be going on a dolphin watch in a couple of weeks," Summer replied. "You'll get to see them up close, should be fun."

"Welcome to the class," Summer smiled. "This class will definitely help with that knowledge," she chuckled. "Towards the last half of the class, we'll focus on seals and sea lions. It's something to look forward to."

"I'll remember that," Bod replied, nodding. "Thank you. It's good to be here."

Summer frowned slightly. "You've lost your voice? I do hope it comes back soon," she offered Ariel a small smile. Her smile widened when she realized what Ariel was conveying. "I've planned a whale watching trip for the class, later on in the session. We'll get to see them up close and hopefully, there will be more than one to watch."

Ariel couldn't help smirking a little; glancing over at the cute boys in class, she certainly hoped it came back soon, too!

She gave Miss Summer an excited, happy nod, looking slightly speculative. After all, she wondered if perhaps she could get some sort of word to Flounder, and he could tell some of their whale friends to make an appearance...

"Peter Bishop, Senior, and the manatee," Peter declared, listing them off quickly. "The noblest of all seagoing mammals."

He was being a smartass.

"Well, that wasn't an answer I'd expected," Summer replied, raising an eyebrow in response. She was a tiny bit amused by his answer, not that she'd admit it. His answer sounded like something her brother would come up with.

"You're in luck, Peter. We'll be visiting a marine habitat that might just have a manatee or two to see," She was smirking just a bit.
