people suck except when they don't | thursday | period 2 | january 21
When the students began filing in, they'd find Loki behind his desk, feet up and magazine open on his lap. He stayed like that until the students settled before standing and getting started.
"Good to see you all made it through the fucking snowstorm we had this weekend," he greeted, giving them all a nod. "I'd have hated to come back to class and seen people without noses or fingers or something else because they were fucking stupid and went outside and had appendages freeze off. I'd have had to laugh."
And he would have too. Such a nice guy.
"Today, we're going to talking about authority figures of a different kind. Last week was parents and guardians and the like, this week, it's police officers, law enforcement officials, teachers, principals, and everything in between. Now, in this place, most of you are away from your parents. And that's gotta be really fucking awesome, right? Too bad that doesn't mean you can get away with any fucking thing because there are people in place to make sure you stay straight and fly right."
Not that they always did a good job but still. The point was there.
"These type of people are going to be a little tougher to deal with than parents and guardians because they're likely not going to have a connection to you. So, they're not going to give a fuck if you cry or moan or make excuses at them. That doesn't mean your experiences have to be shit though. Here's the thing to know for most of the people: moderation. Don't fucking overdo it with them. If you wanna act the fool, fine, but you're going to have to deal with these people in the aftermath. You could be the king of the fucking world and you could flaunt that but, eventually, someone's going to call your fucking bluff and they're either going to arrest you, fire you, stick you in fucking detention or worse. If you keep acting like a shithead, you're just not going to be taken seriously. You're going to become a fucking laughingstock and anytime you try and make a scene? No one will watch. You'll become boring and stead because everyone's seen it before."
Loki paused, glancing back and forth from student to student. "Now, once you find yourself dealing with them, you have a myriad of options. You can try crying but most people have seen that before. It's a common way to get out of things. You can try sexual advances but, again, most of them? Seen it before. Some of them might fall for it but don't use it as your go to plan. A fun thing to do? Act aloof. Act like their punishments don't worry you a fucking bit. It pisses them off and you win, arrested or detention given or whatever. If you know you're gonna be in trouble anyway, act like you wanted it, invited it, what the fuck ever. No one likes to think their authority isn't being respected. And it pisses them off but really, you're not doing a goddamn thing wrong. So, it works in so many ways."
Loki paused, taking a breath and grinning. "For today, I want you to find a partner. Once that's done, I want you to pick one of the five situations I'm going to write on the board and discuss it from the view of the non authority. How would you deal with the situation in question? Do you think you could get out of it? Do you think you could walk the fine line between plucking the strings of the authority figure and sending them into full on anger? Talk it out and let's see how you guys do."
