Study Hall, Monday [1/04]

Summer opened up study hall, taking time to set out an assortment of pastries. There was also coffee, tea and various juices to go along with the snacks.

She helped herself to a large cup of coffee before settling in with her laptop. She also had a book with her, for variety. And if anyone needed help with anything, they were free to interrupt.

[Wait for the OCD is up!]

Claire didn't have classes today, but she did have time before she had to go to work and she had cookies from her adventures in baking last night, so she decided to check out study hall.

After Horror class, Tony gathered up some Sharpies and poster board and set about making recruitment posters for the Magic Reserves.

Jack also went to study hall after Horror class, and retrieved a teach-yourself-Russian CD to use in a computer terminal. Getting it to work was a few minutes of fumbling and more than a little cursing, but eventually he was cruising along.

The school might still not offer any language courses, but he was determined to add another language to his list before he graduated.

He got a smile from Jack as Jack walked around to stretch his legs and get verb conjugations clear in his head. "Still working on the reserves, are you?"

He'd appreciated that they were at least friendly in class even if they couldn't talk, yes.

Tony smiled. "Yeah. I figure there's probably some newbies who'd be interested and some of them won't know how to use e-mail yet."

"And even if they do, they might be too overwhelmed to do anything not right in front of them at first," Jack agreed. "No, posters are a good idea."

Emma only had two classes at the school this term, but she had enrolled in two distance classes through a community college in New York. Which meant she was the study hall at a respectable hour, already hard at work on her statistics assignment.

She'd probably work straight through lunch and just leave her books and things here while she was in Mitchell's class, and come back and finish up before returning to the dorms. Better to get as far ahead now as she could, then need to catch-up at the end of the semester.

Emma had been on her way back to where she'd left her books earlier when she caught a rather familiar mental signature. One that was very focused and intent on his work.

She slipped up behind him, trying to sneakily drop her hands over his eyes. <<Looks like I'm not the only over-achiever in here today.>>

Yes, the telepathy gave away who it was, but Emma was feeling silly.

Jack snickered. "That sounds like Merlin," he said. He got along well with Merlin, but he could be -- well, a bit of a girl, sometimes. "Maybe more people will come if they think boys kiss during it? But I don't know if that crowd would be serious witches."

Unsure of what a study hall actually was (and half expecting some kind of hallway), Karla stuck her head in after lunch.

Huh. There was more studying going on here than she'd come to expect at Fandom.

Jack actually had been concentrating hard enough on his work to jump a bit at her touch ... and promptly feel foolish when he realized who it had to be.

<<It ruins the surprise if you think at me>>, he pointed out, before turning. "What are you overachieving about?"

"Taking advantage of Merlin's absence to make posters with neither glitter nor spelling errors?" Karla teased quietly from over Tony's shoulder. "Would you like a hand?"

*Someone looks very studious,* Karla teased after Emma returned from class. *Which makes me wonder what you're working on.*

Fandom classed were rarely exceptionally rigorous, but the first week of class were even less so.

<<Perhaps, but it was worth it to watch my favorite detective jump.>>

"Math," she said brightly, pointing off in the direction where she'd been working earlier. "Statistics, actually. I'm taking some correspondence courses through a college in New York."

Jack was on another break when he spotted Karla and grinned in her direction. "Happy New Year," he said. "What did you make of New Am - New York?"

See, he managed the right name that time.

Bobby was not, generally speaking, the studious type. But with his stint in the X-Men overwith for now, he'd actually had a few days to think about things. Things like his future.

Which is why he was currently in the study hall, bent over an accounting textbook and trying desperately not to fall asleep as he worked his way through it.

"I think he just likes glitter," Tony said. "I guess it gets people's attention. I kinda want to do something more magical for the posters, but I'm afraid if I used real magic, it'd go wrong somehow."

Karla looked up from her poster and grinned. "I learned a very important lesson there," she said, striving for solemnity. "Don't go to a Chinatown movie theater. Especially not alone. Or for a movie that has to do with milkmaids--but no cows."

It was getting easier to joke about that, now that the first flush of embarrassment had gone away.
