Sex Thru The Ages, 12/15

When the students walked into the classroom today, they'd probably note the single sheet of looseleaf paper sitting on each desk, yes.

"Final exam day," Algren said, standing at the front of the room with his arms crossed over his chest. "And, instead of the multiple-choice like we had on the midterm, today we're going to ask you just one question. Please, answer in essay format, to the best of your ability."

It was possible that he simply didn't trust Jim with the photocopier enough to risk another quiz like that last one again.

It was a wonderful quiz, thank you.

"Explain your feelings on how the social concept of sex has changed from the past until whatever point in time you're at at the moment. Yes, that does include the future," Jim added dryly.

"Please, cite any valid examples that you might remember from class," Algren added, because he knew that there were some of those in there somewhere, "or feel free to mention things that you might be aware of through your own experiences or research."

Yes, their research of sex. They were teenagers. Algren was going to assume that it had to have happened with at least a few of them, somewhere down the road.

Ugh, an essay. Sure, it wasn't that difficult but Alex preferred multiple choice where he could just circle things any day of the week. Essays meant extra use of brainpower.

After some thought, Alex got started on his essay. It wasn't the most detail oriented thing in the world but he explained how sex in the past was sort of a taboo thing, sheltered behind closed doors because it was considered naughty and all and how sex evolved to being something openly discussed and talked about.

Alex, thinking himself clever, cited Professor Algren's moods as an example of how sex had changed since he was always the somewhat glaring one when Captain Kirk got on sex and he was from sometime in the past so it seemed a good example.

Helen wrote an incredibly detailed essay about the difference in accepted mores in terms of how, when, where, and with whom, one should or should not be having sex over the ages.

Emma didn't want to deal with an essay, thanks, although at least she had the advantage that she could read other people's assignments for amusement if she got bored.

Yes, bored. This wasn't exactly an exam she needed to cheat on.

Leda wrote how it seemed to go in circles. At first sex was healthy, even sacred, and then it was the ultimate taboo, and now it was coming back to being okay and a perfectly legit rite of passage.

Karla wrote a very long and detailed essay, comparing Kaeleeran sexual practices with some of the practices discussed in class. She focused mostly on the difference between prostitution (like the kind practiced in Vegas and in Kaeleeran Red Moon Houses) and a Consort, who enjoyed a paid position in the court of the Queen he served, also making sure to touch upon the differences between a court contract and the contracts discussed in the class about the Ferengi.

Jim was there, of course. But he, luckily for Nathan, had no plans to make things more fun for the class.
