Fencing Club - The Salle, Monday Afternoon After Classes

Edmund was human again (and very thankful for it) and waiting for everyone when they arrived. "Thank you all for your patience last week. This is our last week with practice swords. Next week you'll have a choice of a fencing sword or swords with a broader blade. If you have a particular type of sword you'd like to specialise in, please let me know so I can make arrangements for you. They will have sharp edges, so if you have any uncertainties, this is the week to practice them. If you need guidance, please talk to me."

19 days until I jet to North America!

Emma grabbed her preferred practice blade, inwardly pleased that they'd have the real things next week.

Leeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaving on a jet plane!

Emma ran her drills a few times, pushing for absolute perfection with her footing.

Dinah was bouncing at the chance for a real sword, and just in general. Yay day!

Over and over and over and Dinah was determined to get this memorized until it was muscle memory and reflex.

Lion-o was definitely looking forward to practicing with a real blade.

Algren was certainly there if any of the kids needed him. Or if they didn't need him. Or if they were being idiots with the practise weapons and what they really needed was a swift thump upside the head.

He wasn't choosy.

Ellie was looking forward to practicing with a real blade, though she was nervous about it as well.

Ellie practiced the drills, wanting to get everything right before next week.

"You're looking less equine," Rose commented as she found herself near Edmund at one point. "Not a bad look for you."

Edmund glanced over at her, keeping his composure as he often did. "It lasted a week down to the day. I have a new-found respect for human food and talking."

"Aww, maybe that's the lesson you were supposed to learn," she teased. "Standing upright is fun for everyone."

"No," Edmund shook his head. "We're not going to assume there was a lesson in this at all, because then there's a chance this will happen again to annoy me rather than it being a random happenstance."

"Only if you don't learn your lessons about the benefits of standing on both feet," she smirked. "Did anyone take pictures at least?"

"My brother did," he said, "and probably Jo Harvelle as well." As soon as the words escaped his lips, he had a sense of dread. "You saw me in person. You don't need pictures."

"Pretty sure it's not always about need, Edmund," Rose assured him.

As Zayne grabbed his practice blade, he wondered what kind of sword would be best next week. After all, it wasn't like everyone was going to have swords with cortosis in the blades, so he wasn't going to use his lightsaber.

It was something to think about.

"I hoped my firm stance on the subject would have dissuaded you." He paused a beat. "It was a long shot."

"Cause you've met me?" She asked.

"I turned into a horse. Stranger things do happen."

"I have a talking cat crashing in my room," Rose said wryly. "That's weird enough for me."

"That's perfectly normal at home. You need to up your level of weird tolerance. Why is the cat in your room?"

"And vampires are perfectly normal at home, but I don't call your tolerance levels weird if they're not at yours," Rose said lightly. "The cat's upset because his person is currently a dog. And sentences like that prove my weird tolerance is awesome."

"I'm not bothered by vampires," Edmund started to say, then stopped. "No actually, I am, but I do have a difficult time finding anything truly weird anymore. I think I'm desensitised." And thus, Edmund provoked the universe into proving him wrong. Fantastic move, Edmund.

"You say that like you don't think you're going to see a squirrel with a lightsaber hanging out in the park tomorrow," Rose retorted.

"Squirrels are people too. Of sorts. Who's to say they're not Jedi? There are plenty of them on the island."

"Because one of the other Jedi probably would have mentioned it by now?" She pointed out. "Also no lightsabers."

"Perhaps they're stealth Jedi. Or haven't graduated to become full Jedi yet."

"Like Zayne?" Rose suggested. "You're reaching here, Pevensie."

Edmund hadn't known that about Zayne, but from his swordwork it really wasn't that surprising. "I've lost track of what we were talking about." No he hadn't.

"Your exploits as a tiny horse," Rose supplied helpfully.

"I was hardly tiny."

"Are horses normally that little?" She asked curiously.

"Certain breeds of pony are intentional bred to be smaller in stature."

Rose tried hard to keep from snickering as she looked over at him. "Uh huh."

"Don't you have practising to do?" Edmund asked. "I won't take you to the clinic if you wound yourself next week with the real thing because of lack of practice."

She narrowed her eyes at him, insulted at the insinuation. "I have used a real weapon once or twice before, Edmund. I'm not about to freak out at a sudden sharp edge."

"I know," he replied, looking slightly pleased with himself. "But it got you to stop talking about horses."

"Hrm," she was still glaring though there was a little bit of a smirk trying to come through. "For now."
