Fandom vs. The Real World- 2nd Period- Class #8

"In case you haven't noticed," Aeryn greeted the class after the bell had rung, "October tends to be a pretty busy month here. There's Parents Weekend, homecoming, and now we move onto Halloween. This is a holiday that people celebrate everywhere here, though I can't tell you why. At the end of the year, everyone gets obsessed with being scared, down to the movies on TV, though I find they're less scary and more about gore which means they probably even get that part wrong. Vampires, werewolves, ghosts, all of these things are suddenly all over like it's going to scare you. Not that there is anything wrong with being any of these things," she added quickly.

"People celebrate by one of two ways, usually. They go to Halloween parties, wherein everyone is supposed to dress up, and for every so-called scary costume, there are at least two females dressed up like tralks, I believe because those are the only costumes available to them. There is also something called trick-or-treating. This is mostly done as children, though I suppose there's no shame in continuing this later." Said because she knew a lot of people who were likely to do that fully into adulthood if they thought it sounded like fun and would give them cavities. "People dress up in costumes and then go around the neighborhood, ringing on the doorbells of homes and businesses demanding candy saying 'trick or treat.' This is not something you can do on any other night but Halloween. The police will be called on you. Especially as if you don't get your treat, you are supposed to trick the person, though this seems to involve things more like throwing eggs at their house just because they didn't want to give you something you didn't deserve, and for good reason. So it's a holiday based around solicitation and vandalism, but there you are.

"Today we're going to do something I don't believe in at all, but we're going to watch a movie. It's called Death in a Fence, and I encourage you to talk through it because it is terrible."

Uh, Karla will not be in class today, though she may stop by office hours this week to lie explain her absence.

She's going to 3rd period! Because Ahddie says Karla MUST go to deal with the sexy mental patient costume.

Raven had wanted to do nothing more than skip class and hide under the covers all day, but she hoped class would distract her from thinking about what had happened last night, so she made herself go. Unfortunately, talk of ghosts and vampires did little to help, so she just remained quiet, eyes haunted and tired. If anyone touched her, she'd probably jump ten feet.

Chuck would actually have to think about his costume this year, now he didn't have Morgan here to dress all sandworm with him.

So, yeah, he was thinking about that while he watched the movie. Or, um, didn't really watch the movie. Whichever.

Mat was fascinated by the movie. When it was the only you'd ever seen, your standards were terrible, too.

Illyria crossed her arms, settled back, and tried to rate the scythe's effectiveness as a weapon against the likelihood that it would catch in Death's robes at any given time.

It seemed vaguely ineffective even against fenceposts, so far.

Morgana was still easily fascinated by films, so it didn't matter how terrible it was - she was hooked.

Did you try the sequel? Perhaps the game is being persnickety.

P.S. I love the fact that the abbreviation for this movie is DIAF.

Raven glanced over to Jon. She did not know him very well, but she appreciated his concern. I did not sleep well last night, she wrote back. That much was true, at least.

Jon knew she was a friend of Karla's, and would get frowned out by several people if they found out he noticed but didn't ask. When he got the return note, he nodded, but decided to ask Karla later.
