Handouts were set out along the workbenches that filled today's classroom. "Wood, lumber or timber," Mohinder started, hand resting on a length of two-by-four as he spoke. "Certainly one of the earliest construction materials, if less popular now. Softwoods are found from coniferous trees, and can misleadingly be stronger, more dense than some deciduous hardwoods."

Mohinder went through the pointed out the examples of different cuts of timber, demonstrating a few simple tools - hammer, saw, plane and chisel among before handing out instructions, saying, "Once you're familiar with the tools and materials, I want you start working on one of these designs."

Hardwoods, softwoods, hammers, nails, saws, pliers and moddable other equipment is available. As are the plans (http://www.woodprojects.com/plans1.php) to work on. Alone or in groups as you like but safety first with the tools, 'kay.

Claire was hovering around the classroom, waiting for class to end so she could talk to Professor Suresh.

Naomi listened carefully to the lecture and took down notes.

Mohinder looked up from packing away his notes. "Claire?"

"Hey, Professor Suresh," Claire said, giving him a little smile and wave. "Do you have a few minutes?"

"Of course," replied Mohinder, shisting to lean against his desk. "How are you finding your classes?"

"They're good," Claire said, walking into the classroom and sitting in the desk nearest his. "I picked classes that I think will have practical applications for me after graduation."

"Practical," echoed Mohinder. "So you're already considering college choices?"

"Uh, no," Claire admitted. "I'm taking Punching People for Fun and Profit, Swordfighting and Critical Thinking."

She shrugged. "Figure I need to be able to protect myself from the Company."

"That's certainly an aggressive strategy," commented Mohinder. "Have they made any threats?" he asked, considering the situation back home. "Other than their continued existance."

"Nothing directed at me since I've been here," Claire said. "But I think I found something out that would make them extremely interested in me. That's what I wanted to talk to you about."

"Something related to your ability?" Mohinder guessed.

Claire nodded. "Yeah. I don't know if you were around for the whole 'people getting stuck in an alternate universe' thing this summer," she said. "But one of the people who was there said that the me in that universe used her blood to heal other people."

"Something in the blood," Mohinder said, almost to himself. "Activated by brain chemistry, or independant..." He deliberately stilled the hand that had been reaching for a pen and looked up at Claire.

"And it worked? Is this something you're thinking of trying yourself?" he asked carefully.

"I don't know. If it would work, it would be nice to be able to help people," Claire said. "But I don't want to do it if it's going to hurt someone."

"If your blood type matched the recipient that would take care of the obvious problems, but I couldn't say for sure that there wouldn't be unexpected reactions," said Mohinder. "Are you concerned they might be permanently affected, as you are?"

"Hm, that hadn't even occurred to me. Apparently in that alternate universe, I was pretty free with offering the blood to people, so I don't think that was a thing," Claire said, considering it. "I mean, if that was the case, why wouldn't she have just given everyone injections to keep the vamps from killing or turning them?"

"Fear of creating an unkillable vampire? Or someone who'd survive permanently, regardless of what was done to them?" speculated Mohinder. "Hopefully, humans wouldn't be that - creative - when it came to that."

Claire nodded. "Yeah, I don't know. Do you know of any way we can test it? See if it's safe? If I can use my ability to safely help people, I want to."

"If we take some of your blood and combine it with test samples," Mohinder started making notes, talking as he thought. "On that scale we might not be able to verify a regenerative effect, but without an observable adverse reaction a donation of your blood should be no more harmful than anyone else's."

"Would you... do you think you could help me with that?" Claire asked.

"I have enough equipment here that that shouldn't be a problem," said Mohinder. "If you're sure about it."

"I want to know," Claire said. "I want to help people if I can. And it gives me an edge if I know something the Company doesn't."

"Well, whenever we're both free, then," said Mohinder. "They might not know, but it would be best not to take that for granted."

"Thank you, Professor Suresh," Claire said. "I can stop by your office whenever is good for you."

"I hold office hours most Thursdays," Mohinder told her. ~~RL permitting~~. "I'll see you then, Claire."

"See you then!" Claire said, heading out.
