Oceanography [Thursday, Week 3, Period Five]
It was a day for a beach excursion and the weather was rather pleasant out. Summer was pleased. She was afraid it was going to rain.
"Hey guys," Summer smiled at her students. "It looks like a good beach day, so what do you say we head on out?" Sure, it was a bit cloudy but Summer was confident it wouldn't rain just yet.
"When the ocean is at low tide, independent pools form in the sand. All kinds of sea life can be found in them -- starfish, sea stars, hermit crabs, among others. The pools can be shallow or deep and, since there are bound to be quite a few here, please be careful."
Summer smiled. "Given the ever changing tides, the sea creatures must adapt quickly to their temporary homes. Sometimes, the tidal pools can last for hours, sometimes even less, given the ocean currents." Who knows what they might see in the pools, especially given the warm weather.
Summer was looking forward to seeing what the students might find. "I'd like you to mark down what you find in them. Feel free to ask me if you're not sure of what it could be." She knew that the sea life could be strange to some, if not all of her students. "You might be surprised by your discoveries."
