Rangering, Friday, Period Four

Arthur was an idiot. Arthur was a stubborn idiot. That was the only explanation for why, at this hour, he was still picking up what he felt was his duty. Which involved Sir Minsc, and his class, and sort of being a TA for it. "Ah, maggots! Last week, you did research," he said, "Research is a valuable tool if you're out to, to use Sir Minsc's favorite expression, 'buttkick for goodness'. It is, however, only a tool. Sometimes, you won't be certain what will defeat your enemy until you're already face to face with it. Sometimes, you won't have the tools you'd planned for."

He rubbed at his brow. "Today, you will be putting your 'plans' into action," he said, "If you actually bothered to make any. Take the enemy you have chosen to fight, and have at. With any luck, you may even remain standing by the end." Some of them should be lucky Arthur had no clue how to up the difficulty on the Danger Shop.

"Take the gryphon, for example," he continued, "A creature of magic, yes. But when you've only sinew and steel at your command, you find yourself in a blessed trap. Then what will you do? I doubt you'll be running for a book, at any rate."

Some of them should be really lucky.

"So have a go," he finished, pleasantly, and shot the class a tired smile that tried for sharklike but wound up somewhere in the middle. He might've been blinking to keep his eyes open.

Which would be when a rather insistent and unamused manservant stepped forward to drag him out of the danger shop before he passed out. Again.

[[ wait for the OCD up! ]]

Gwynn was busy fighting a hobgoblin.

After fighting with her assigned enemy, Gwynn was naturally practicing with a crossbow. She liked this weapon almost as much as she liked her longbow.

Fiona rolled her eyes... and thought it funny that he didn't say what one should run for if not a book when they had only 'steel and sinew' against a magical creature.

But she said nothing.

Fiona drew out the battle with the Lastrygonian warrior she'd studied up on. After all, her objective was always a little odd with these things.

Zayne did battle with a Sith Apprentice. Zayne had planned meticulously for this fight. He had looked up information on common Sith dueling techniques, planned out what he thought the best method of gaining an advantage against those would be, and worked extra hard on his swordplay this week which was all handwavey.

The one thing he forgot to plan for, though, was that a Sith would cheat and take advantage of the fact that they were dueling with metal swords. One lightning attack later and Zayne was unarmed, on the ground, and watching as the apprentice stalked closer. Before it got TOO close, though, the program had a hiccup, causing the Sith to fall over and die.

Zayne won due to a technical issue.

"?!" Momoko was not a maggot, thank you very much!

But she agreed with Arthur about sometimes coming up against something you're not prepared for. I mean, who can expect a piano to come to life and eat people who play it?

Momoko took a breath and then transformed into Blossom before stepping out to test her research abilities against a ghoul. She tried a few of the special techniques that some of her research had suggested, but ended up resorting to the usual pummeling with her yo-yo when nothing else really seemed to work. She was mindful to stay in the air, as far away as possible from the fangs and claws, though there were a few near misses once the ghoul figured out ways to reach closer to her.
