Strategy Game; Period Five; Friday 07.10.09

"Um, hello," Reid said, once his students were assembled. "I'm Dr. Spencer Reid, and if you're here, you... signed up for my class on strategic board games. If you didn't sign up, but you want to be part of the class anyway, stick around, and talk to me after class." He swallowed, and looked around the class again.

"We're... Not going to do much today, ah, just. Introduce yourself, and tell the class about your favourite game. After that, feel free to um, have fun," he said, gesturing to the board games that sat on each table.

"Ah, also, I'm looking for a TA. If you're interested, please see me after class."

((ooc: TA has already been decided, but you're welcome to talk to Reid about it anyway.))

((plz wait for OCD!))
((OCD up!))

Board games hadn't been allowed, mostly because of the 'no dice' rule, so while she was listening, she was also eying the different games hungrily.

"Fiona Post," she said with a lift of her head and a smile at the teacher.

"And I like" vocabulary insult "trivia, I guess. Well, certain trivia."

After class, Fiona made her way to the professor's desk. Being a teaching assistant had worked out well for her the last time, and she was interested in all the different games...

"Professor?"

"I was interested in the teaching assistant position?"

She wondered if he'd be as strange as the last professor she'd assisted. Max had been rather fun to work for, really, since he was very informal but then there'd been that one talk in his office where he couldn't stand the sight of her. Weeeeird.

"Because," she said, starting slowly as she thought out how to put it, "I had a very good time assisting another teacher in one of my classes last semester and I'd really like to learn about board games?"

That seemed a safe bet.

"I know the history of all the games you had out today. I'm not clueless. Just wasn't allowed to play them."

Crap.

"Um, all kinds? Medical, historical, linguistic, scientific, mathematical, judicial, geographical."

She paused and tilted her head.

"Keep going?"

A quick nod.

"Certainly. I can be helpful."

Not that she'd had to be the last time, but she could be. She was sure of it.

"And, uh, yeah. My mother was kind of weird about some things."

She nodded, quick and a little flustered, and sat.

She quirked her lips one way, then the other.

"I should be fine," she insisted. "I learn quickly. If you tell me which game we'll be doing next week, I'll make sure to be prepared."

"If you're referring to 'draughts', though, you would have to specify which variety as different countries have certain permutations of the rules, differing on such subjects as which color goes first, the objective, and the board size."

She gave him a little smile.

"So did you mean English draughts?"
