Abby Irene was distinctly uncomfortable today. She couldn't quite focus on what she was supposed to be teaching and as the students filed in, had to admit that she wanted nothing more than to go find Murdock and drag him into a closet.

...well, a bed really, but she thought a closet would be easier to find.

That would be why today's class was, well, a little informal.

"Today is going to be an active day for you all," she said, realizing only after it was out of her mouth what it could sound like.

"In short, you're going to go through a list of things you need to do what you do, no matter what they might be" and that went out to a few people probably knew who they were, "and I'm going to ask you to try and figure out what you could substitute for that thing.

"If you use ingredients, figure out what might happen if you don't have them around. If you use words, imagine you can't speak. If you use thoughts, imagine that your mind has been clouded. Regardless of how you work magick, I'd like to see you consider how you would act if it was impossible for you to use a vital component of your spellwork."

Distracted

It's short, but you can talk while you work too.

She'll be walking around to see what you have. As will the TAs.

Dōjima was there, although slightly distracted.

Thinking about trying to deal with a Witch without her gun was more than a bit worrying, especially since she didn't have any Craft with which to defend herself.

This was why Hunters always worked in pairs if they were smart; one Crafted to one Seed. It made a good balance when working a case.

Diana Hansen

"If I can't talk, I can use my hands, if I can't use my hands, I can talk." Diana said smugly.

"And if you're bound and gagged?"

She'd thought this was an obvious question.

"Wait for a dashing prince to rescue me." Diana half-drawled.

"And when he doesn't arrive, they cut your throat," she said matter-of-factly.

"Why are you in this class, if you think you know everything?"

"I had to take something." Diana informed her, confident in her knowledge of everything in a way that only a teenager could be.

"And yet," she said slowly, with the knowledge that she didn't know everything but knew some things quite well, "you still don't have an actual answer for what to do should you be bound and gagged. Curious."

Eleanor Robinson

Things she needed to do? Let's see...

No, no, no. This was class. She was supposed to be working on an assignment. Yes...

Wonder what Leda looks like in the moonlight?

Oh my god.

Eleanor would spend the rest of the lecture with her face as close to her paper as possible, hoping no one would see her blushes.

...and there's a pilot somewhere who wouldn't mind getting shoved into a closet.

Funny how this class subject was so much like what Eleanor had gone through at the end with Alison.

She had been drugged. Even locked up, after a fashion.

"I would focus my thoughts on nothing but the spell that would free me, even if it took several tries to complete the spell."

Focusing her thoughts much as she was doing now, too.

Tony spent most of the lecture throwing sly glances in Jack's direction.

Savannah Levine

Savannah was highly distracted and trying not to be. She was even trying to focus on checking on the other students as she was supposed to.

Her spells didn't require her voice, so that was good. If her mind was too muddled to do the magic -- and yes, she had experience with that one -- she would do her best to turn whatever she could reach into a weapon in an attempt to fight her way --

"I'd just use whatever's handy," Agnes decided. "If I'm in a tight situation, planning out a substitution won't help much."

She was starting to wonder if her students didn't like her.

"The point of the exercise isn't to 'plan' a substitution. It's an exercise to make sure you're thinking logically and practically."

"But that's just it, isn't it?" Agnes asked. "If you're thinking logically and practically, you'd be prepared. If you're not, then isn't it time to start thinking creatively?"

She chuckled.

"If only the world was so neatly divided, so evenly organized. If you're thinking logically and practically, you've tried to be prepared, but life springs on us unawares. If you're not, then you have to think creatively, but creativity is only so helpful without practicality."

Esmerelda Weatherwax

Agnes nodded. It was sage advice. "And regardless," she added, "many of your problems can be solved if you get your hands on a stout length of wood."

Alex Russo

Diana rolled her eyes. "I'd use my mental powers to undo the gag and bindings - nothing is ever perfect. You just find the right string to pull. Easy."

"Forget that then. If your mind was muddied with drugs, or you were knocked unconscious?"

"Very true."

She liked Agnes.
