Drama, Monday, Period 2 [6/1]

"Memorization! This is the thing that frightens off so many people from acting. It's really not as difficult as people make it out to be. The thing to remember is that memorizing a script is sequential; you have cues and reminders that lead you on from line to line. Things to do, especially for those of you in the play this summer." Sophie held up a color-coded script.

"Outline your lines. Colors help trigger memory. Say them aloud. Most actor's memories work on both visual and audio cues-- and you remember your own voice best. Reciting the lines will help you memorize them. Some people also remember if they copy them over in their own handwriting. Do that if it helps. Memory is helped by physical movement; read the script and walk out the cues." Sophie smiled at them all. "Now! Scenes! Break into the pairs I've designated, and rehearse one of the three scenes I've given you. Switch halfway through, and see how different your performance in one character's role is from your partner's, yes?"

[ooc on its way up!]

Gabrielle was examining her script very carefully. Turning it upside down, holding it up to the light, peering at the edges of the paper . . .

"That's amazing! I've never seen parchment this color before."

. . . yeah.

Harper fussed with her headscarf as she listened to the lecture. She was glad she wore the owl outfit (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v325/thena8572/wizards/036.jpg) today.

It didn't take long for Harper to find a scene (http://shakespeare.mit.edu/asyoulikeit/asyoulikeit.5.2.html) she wanted to do. Now, she was just gazing adoringly at Eric once he pings in.

Scripts. Emma flipped through hers idly, reading over the various parts. There were a few that she liked and would be willing to read, but nothing really jumped out at her.

Shilo rushed over, looking frantic, as soon as class ended.

"I was a cat this weekend and I just changed back at 10:30, which is why I'm late, but I didn't mean to be late because I had my alarm set, but I was still a cat when it went off and the noise must have upset me because I knocked my water glass over on it so it would stop," she blurted. A breathe, and then, "I'm so, so sorry that I was late for class."

Shilo rushed in late, grabbing a random script as she did, and sat down out of Sophie's line of sight. She began flipping through the pages, looking over the lines as she did.

Shilo decided on a scene from The Tempest (http://shakespeare.mit.edu/tempest/tempest.3.1.html), which her father had once mentioned being a favorite of her mother's. She then waited for Sam to ping in to approach her.

While Sam figured he was pretty good at improv, having lines to work with made things a lot easier, and he took some time to look over the script with genuine concentration.

Sam smiled at Shilo as he sat down next to her. "Hey. How's it going?" he asked in greeting.

"It... goes," Shilo replied, deciding that telling someone you were resisting the urge to clean yourself wasn't something normal people did. Yes, even in Fandom. "How about you?"

"Pretty good," Sam said, "even if it is Monday. Have you done theatre stuff like this before?"

"Not really," Shilo admitted, "outside of the usual little kid playing pretend. Have you?"

Sam shook his head. "No, but it's always seemed like fun. Is that the scene you want to do?" he asked, pointing to the script she had."
