Basketball- 6th Period- Class #3

Yep, Lily was back for class today, though minus her guitar.

"Hi, guys!" she called. "So I know you might not be used to going to class on a holiday. And some of you might not even know today is a holiday, because our education here is sorely lacking in that kind of thing. But today is Memorial Day, which is a day when we remember- see, it's pretty easy there- people who fought in wars. And we have a lot of those. So to celebrate, we usually get the day off, and even though the real first day of summer isn't until June this holiday marks the real start of summer because this is when cookout season starts.

"So since most places would have the day off, I'm going to just play some music, and you all can do whatever you want today!"

Lily, you let them do that every wee- Oh, never mind, she was already hitting play on the little CD player she'd brought, as it was more festive than the guitar.

Like it's the real start of summer!

Who cares if it's on the holiday and has nothing to do with basketball?

It can even be basketball.

I promise she didn't start the day with drinks. She's just like this.

There was an actual lecture this week. And it was one he understood and would remember. Best class ever.

Well, since the class was basketball, Hannibal grabbed a ball and spent some time dribbling it.

Adora

Feeling extra respectful of the day's holiday, Adora wondered if she shouldn't do something to remember this date.

Whatever was very overwhelming for Adora. She would wait and see what others did and join someone. Eventually.

Tim Riggins

Riggins just decided to lay back on the floor and try to sleep. Funny how he could sleep just about anywhere.

Yakko Warner

Yakko actually listened to the lecture today. He had respect for the veterans. Also, he liked days off, so he was willing to let Lily say whatever she wanted to.

Yakko grabbed a grill from under the bleachers and started cooking some burgers. What? It was the start of cookout season, Ms Aldrin herself said so.

Noticing this, and not about to stifle the weird kid's creativity, Lily did have to say, "I hope you brought enough for the rest of the class."

"Of course I did," Yakko said. He pulled a cooler out from under the bleachers, too. "What kind do you want? Burger, cheeseburger, chickenburger, tofuburger, veggieburger, burgerburger, SPAMburger, or other?"

Lily looked confused. "What's 'other'?" She was afraid to ask with that list.

"Hot dogs," Yakko said. "I didn't know what kind of meat to put them under."

"Good point," she said. "Cheeseburger, please."

"Sure thing!" Yakko said. "I'll be right back. I need to find a cow to make the cheese."

And with that, Yakko ran off.

Lily paused.

"...I hope the cow's not a student."

About thirty seconds later, Yakko returned with a slice of cheese, overalls, a straw hat, and a blue ribbon for the Iowa State Fair Cheese Making Competition.

Just in time for the burger to be done! "Here you go!" Yakko said, assembling the cheeseburger for Lily.

"Thank you, Yakko," Lily said appreciatively. "Just for this, I'll bring you a gold star next week."

"Thanks! It'll go well with my model of the solar system," Yakko said, pulling a full diorama out of his pocket.
