Storytelling, Fifth Period, 5/14

Tim waited for the kids at the main campfire. There was apple cider, and snacks waiting as well. "Hey guys I'm Tim..." He paused for a moment to supress a bit of shock at one of his students. "Desmond. Uh, hi. So! Storytelling. Is what we're here to do. Today we'll start simply. Introductions. It's kind of a short story in and of itself. I want you all to tell your name, year, and something unique about yourself, or your world.

"I'm Tim Desmond...like I already told you. Right. Anyway I was a rising senior when I was here three years ago. And in my world I am known in some circles as the Grand and Puissant Champion of the Fae. Please save your laughter for the end. Also, in my world, people who don't, or can't believe in the supernatural, simply doesn't see it. If someone were to see, say a Dragon, their brains would go 'Oh holy shit a Dragon. Wait that's silly, there's no such things as dragons, so clearly, that's not a dragon. And in their eyes the Dragon would either cease to be there, or become something like a large, unfriendly dog."

He took a breath. "So. Each week, I want at least one of you, to tell a story. Next week we're going to expand on today's theme, and tell a story from your life."

He could use a TA. He was also bracing himself for some possible awkwardness.

He didn't go through hell (literally) to save the world, just to let it end now.

Gwynn Hood

Claire ~~Bennet~~ Butler

Okay, this class might end up being more difficult than Claire had anticipated.

She smiled brightly and took her turn. "My name is Claire Butler, I'm beginning my junior year and there are people in my world who have special abilities. Or so I've heard."

Gwynn managed to overcome her shock for a few moments to introduce herself. "I am Gwynn Hood, and I will be a senior. I am from the year 1199... and the Sheriff of Nottingham needs a better wardrobe."

Gwynn spent most of the class time gaping or wondering if she had hit her head and this was a hallucination. Finally, she made her way over to him towards the end of class.

"You... you are a teacher."

Way to state the obvious, Gwynn.

Shilo Wallace.

"I'm Shilo Wallace, I'm a junior, and..." She didn't want to depress everyone. "In the future organ transplants are a lot easier than they are now."

That was unusual, wasn't it?

Liz Sherman

"I'm Liz Sherman and I'm going to be a senior," she said, "and I'm a pyrokinetic," to demonstrate she held out her hand and clear blue flames appeared, she held them for a few seconds and then she let them disappear.

Claire stared at her.

That had a pretty broad definition. For all he knew on her world the ability to hop on one foot could be considered a special ability.

"Welcome to Fandom Clair. I'm sure you'll have an exciting summer."

Tim snickered, remembering watching Robin Hood movies with her once.

Unusual enough. "Thanks for joining my class Shilo."

"He still doesn't wear tights," Gwynn said firmly, having remembered the movie about her father and his friends where they were wearing tights.

Well now that was impressive. "Wow. Pretty cool. No irony intended."

"You're no more surprised than I am." he laughed. "How...how've you been Gwynn?"

It was all coming back to him, how much he'd missed her when he'd left.

She had missed him, too.

"How did you become old enough to be a teacher when you were not much older than me?" She tilted her head. "I have not been unwell. I also have not been hung as of yet this year."

It was obvious that she probably had stories to tell him.

Claire smiled. "Oh, I'm sure I will."

Jack Burton

"Jack Burton, and I'm a junior. Or a senior. I'm not sure, since this is summer and there was just the Graduation, so...I'm whatever that is. And..." He thought for a moment. "And I just got a haircut."

Please ignore the mullety icons for a month or so ~~until it grows back~~.

"Thank God."

"Congratualations."

"According to one of the teachers this summer, I'm not. I graduated high school the year after I left here, just finished my sophomore year of college." He had managed to keep in touch during his senior year, but then Fandom had gone away. "Still keeping ahead of the Sheriff?"

She paled only slightly. "Let's just say that I keep giving him more and more reason to want me dead," she said cheerfully. Her eyes were full of concern and some sadness. "Is that why you never wrote?"

"I did write." he assured her. But, after that first year, the letters came back return to sender. You didn't get my letters about Baba Yaga and monsters?"

Gwynn shook her head. "I did not. Monsters? Were you injured?"

Stupid mail system. "Nothing permanent. I...oh man it's a long story."

"What happened, Tim?"

Liz wasn't entirely sure what to make of the staring but she offered a smile in Claire's direction.

"Not long after I started school again a witch named Baba Yaga escaped from the Leeside, where the Fae and the rest of the supernatural stuff spent the last hundred years. She enslaved our Bannik, and put my mother under one of those 1000 year sleep spells. She said she'd let them go if I helped her. She wanted me to acclimate the Monsters to the modern world the same as I did for the Fae."

"So she was an evil witch, unlike my friend, Eve?" She frowned, processing all of this. "It is not right to hurt innocents to get what you want."

Ah yes, two and a half years had not taken that logic from her.

"Especially not when what you want is bad. My friend Neil and I tried to trick her. It ended with me and him switching bodies for a few months, and while he was me he got the monsters enrolled in our high school."

She thought about this for a long moment. "Is switching bodies like being a zombie?"

Look, the question made sense in her mind.

"No. No it was, like, our minds jumped from our own bodies into the other's. Eventually that got fixed. But we were stuck like that for a while. It uh, helped us get to know each other a bit better."

The memory of enduring Neil's relationship with his father still bothered him sometimes.

"It sounds like it was an unpleasant situation for all of you, Tim. Is your mother safe?"

"Yeah. Yeah we had a big epic battle at prom. Mom got woken up, and Baba Yaga, well her house fell on her."
