Thaumaturgy 101 - First Period, Thursday 4/2

Today, each of the desks were prepared with handouts, pens, paper, and colored pencils.

"Don't worry, we haven't been taken over by the art club," she said with a smile once everyone was sitting.

"Today, however, will be a relatively light class concerning the design, use, and meaning behind Hex signs as utilized by the Germanic practitioners of Pennsylvania. Hexenmeisters, as they are called, use many techniques, most having to do with specific scripts and prayers, but among one of their more charming tools are hex signs. Go through the farmlands of Pennslyvania and I doubt that you will fail to see one.

"While this exercise might seem childish or hokey, the lessons learned today will no doubt serve you in the future should you pursue more complex sigil work. They are, after all, merely a more widespread and folklorish extension of some of the more complex and powerful bindrune and runescript design used by Teutonic magicians."

She smiled then and gestured for them to start looking at their handouts to get a feel for the rules of design, the symbology, and the color usage.

"Then I'd like you each to design a hex sign which would be useful to you or at least personally significant."

[ocd up!]
