Survival Skills [Wednesday, Period Four]

Today the Danger Shop was set up to look like a shooting range, and the students were directed to collect the appropriate safety gear as they entered. Once all the students had gathered, Bond began.

"Afternoon, class. This week, we will be continuing on from last week's discussion of unarmed combat by looking at armed combat. Now, since we would be here until graduation if I attempted to discuss every single weapon ever used in combat, not least because any random object can be turned into a weapon if one is motivated enough, which I would strongly suggest you all remember for future reference, we will be looking at one particular subset of weapons, namely guns, and you'll have a chance to practice with two different kinds."

Bond then launched into a brief lecture on the history and basic principles behind firearms, before pressing a control and causing a pair of weapons to appear by him. He picked up the first, moving slowly so the students could see what he was doing as he stripped the gun and put it back together. "This here is a Walther PP9. Semi-automatic pistol, German design, as far as sidearms go, I've always found it a good all-rounder. Ear-muffs on." As soon as the last student had their hearing protection on, Bond turned and fired, double-tapping the target.

"This, however, is a Heckler & Koch UMP," Bond said, putting down the PP9 and picking up the second weapon. "Submachine gun, more stopping power than most, but a comparatively low rate of fire, still it's quite useful once you get used to it." He fired again, turning the two neat holes in the paper target's chest into one larger, somewhat more ragged, hole.

Bond pressed another control, causing more guns to appear. "Now, I would like you all to try out both the PP9 and the UMG, so as to get an idea of the differences. However, despite this being a simulation, do remember to treat these as if they were real, with live ammunition."

Oh. Guns. Amber wondered what kind of gun Gladys had used when she was firing from the roof of the supermarket that day.

Safety gear on, Amber picked up the PP9 rather tentatively, studying it before she aimed at the target and fired. Ohhh, she was way off any kind of mark.

She kept practicing.

Turtle took in a deep breath. One would think that, with all the stuff she's done on shooting and maintaining firearms in this last year or so, she'd start getting more comfortable around them, but she just accepted the fact that she wasn't a gun person, but that sometimes, you just had to be, and you had to deal with it...

[identity profile] stocksgrrl.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 01:34 pm (UTC)(link)
No one needed to tell Turtle twice about safety gear. The pistol wasn't a problem at all at this point for her, but the semi-automatic.

...She looked at it with the sort of skepticism one might give a dog that looked like it was going to pee on your leg. This...would be interesting.

Helen listened intently. Just because she had some basic knowledge didn't mean she shouldn't pay close attention.

Helen was actually a rather good shot. The priests had taught her that much at least, though self-defense was never considered a hugely important part of her learning. Everyone on her world learned the basics.

Hurley made a little face.

He didn't really like guns. But he'd deal.

Hurley put on the safety equipment... but then just sort of stood and looked at the weapons instead of actually picking them up.

Gavin paid close attention to this lecture only because Earth guns were unfamiliar and there were just so many.

Gavin donned his safety gear and picked up the PP9, slowly getting a feel of it's shape and size.

After he'd acquainted himself with how the gun work and started target practice. It took him a bit to get the sights settled but, once he did, he was a good shot.

Gavin wasn't going to shoot anyone unless it was shooting them a glare or something and, even then, he'd only glare at John.

He was there though!

Bond wasn't saying anything that Dean didn't already know, but it was always nice to get proof that your teacher actually did know what he was talking about.

Dean tried out both guns, hitting the target smoothly. They were nice enough, but he still preferred his own.

Adam wasn't a big fan of guns, but he listened anyway. Just because he didn't like them didn't mean the information wasn't useful.

Liir was watching, curious at the different types this time as he'd seen more than his share of weapons in various other classes. These seemed vrey nice indeed thought.

Gwynn was taking notes. Guns weren't her thing, but in war you used what you could.

[identity profile] notafairmaiden.livejournal.com 2008-09-17 11:27 pm (UTC)(link)
Gwynn carefully put on safety gear and then looked at the guns. Picking up the smallest, she examined it for several long moments and then aimed at the target.

Woah. Bows didn't recoil like that...

Andros preferred his astro blaster but he supposed that any type of gun could do as a weapon if he couldn't use that.
