Childhood Games, Class #2, Thursday period 1

The class met out by the main campfire today, where Lily looked much happier being in the actual outdoors. "Hi, guys. You all came back!" she said, quickly doing a headcount to make sure that was true. "Today we're getting a little more active than last week and playing a game called Red Light, Green Light. Um, okay, in case you've never been in a car, you can only drive at streetlights when the light turns green, and you have to stop when it turns red. Same thing here, only minus the cars. That's another class.

"The first person will stand here," she said, standing next to the unlit campfire and turning her back, "so you can't see what everyone's doing. Everyone else stands where you guys are now, and when I say 'green light', you all run towards me. When I say 'red light' you all have to stop where you are or you're out and have to sit over there." She pointed to the spot she'd designated Time Out. Shush, old habits died hard. "The first person to reach the campfire wins, and you go on to the next round. Pretty easy, right? Any questions?

"Okay," she said, once any had been answered. "Who wants to go first?"

Gladys dutifully stood by the campfire with her back turned. "Green Light," she intoned after a few moments.

"Red Light," Gladys rumbled, turning around. "You Must Stop."

Amber, on guard for this moment, froze.

The spirit of competition overwhelmed Worf.

Yes it was a child's game. He really didn't care.

He ran at full steam towards Gladys.

"Red Light," Gladys intoned, eyes flaring as she turned. "That Means You Must Stop."

Worf stopped, growling at being made to do so.

He may have had to stop but it doesn't he couldn't be prepared to run again.

He crouched down into a run-start position waiting for the statue to give the green light.

She waited, watching him dispassionately (not that she really watched anyone any other way), then said, "GreenLight," very quickly.

Worf took off like a shot, running as fast as he could.

Worf tried to stop stumbling forward one step as he glared at Gladys and let out a grunt of frustration.

"Green Light," she said, watching him closely so she could get out of the way if her was going to run into her.

[must sleeeeeep now]

Worf leaped from his position in an attempt to grab Gladys before she could say anything else.

[niiiiight!]

He could grab her all liked, and she simply stared at him, completely unmoved or unmoving. "Is This Part Of The Rules We Were Not Told?"

Worf coughed in embarrassment.

"My apologies," he said standing at attention as if to make up for the mistake.. 'I got... carried away."

"That Is All Right," Gladys told him. "You Were A Good Stopper."

Viki did not really understand, and wondered where the lights were that the stone-lady could seem to see and none of the rest of them could...

Oh... she was supposed to be running right?

Viki nearly tripped over her feet as she started to move. Where was the light?

Gladys said, "Red Light," and added, "That Means Stop." Helpful, were the golems.

[I have to sleep now!]

They really were helpful! Especially when it was someone like Viki.

She stumbled to a stop, and chirped, "Thank you!"

This game was going over Viki's head, yes.

[Sleep well!]

"You Are Welcome," she replied, eyes flickering. "Green Light Which Mean You Run Again."

Alex started running toward Gladys.

After a few seconds, she intoned, "Red Light. Stopping Is Required."

Alex tried to freeze mid-stride and fell over. Because he was smooth like that.

"That Means You Are Out," she said helpfully. "You Are Not Hurt?"
