Basic Auto Mechanics, Session 2, Monday period 4

When the students entered they found the place set up as a rather large garage with a work area set up for each of them complete with equipment and car.

"Good afternoon," John greeted them. "Today we're going to cover one of the basics of car maintainance -- namely changing the oil. I'm going to walk you through the steps and then it'll be your turn to try." He demonstrated on the car that looked a lot like a certain 67 chevy impala.

"And that's how it's done," he said when he finished, wiping his hands off on a cloth. "Now it's your turn to try."

Knowing that he was probably going to need to, Cal tried to pay careful attention to the demonstration. It was simple enough that he figured he could do it without a problem, so long as he wasn't flaking out on listening.

Lois didn't have too much changing the oil in the car. She definitely didn't mind getting dirty.

You know what's weird? I actually like changing my own oil. I think it's fun.

Also I get touchy when anybody but me tries to mess with my car ;)

for me it's the "you have to get under the car" thing. Having things that close above my face when I'm lying down wigs me out.

Simple enough, really, Cal figured, as he tried carefully to follow the demonstration and, at the same time, do a clean job of it. He wouldn't admit to be concerned about getting dirty, but he kind of was.

Oh, dude, they were DOING STUFF to the cars! With the levers and gears and knobs and -- okay, just changing the oil, but still. Rikku was taking notes and bouncing in her seat.

Rikku didn't need help. Rikku just needed to resist the urge to play with all the other caps and wires and -- okay, she was gonna be good here and not take apart the engine. She changed the oil and felt unbearably proud of herself. Woo!
