Basic Computer Final [Tuesday, Period 3, April 22]

Mike Cannon was not in a very good mood. "We're going to make this short and simple today since I have a headache," he said. "One of the best known computer applications is having the computer play chess. When you or I play chess, we have to sit there and think through all the possible moves, analyzing them for the best possible outcome. It takes a while. The computer can do all that work in a fraction of a second, and as a bonus, it doesn't break a sweat. It doesn't get flustered."

He gestured to the computer workstations, all set up to play a chess game. "For your final exam, you're going to try and beat a computer at chess. Anyone who can beat the computer gets an automatic A on the exam. I'll also give an automatic A for the course for the person who can find me a damn cup of coffee that isn't decaf."

I'm horrible at chess, but still managed to cheat my way to a checkmate.

I'm around up until 4 PM CDT, and if last week is any indication, I won't be back until after midnight.

Cassandra Cain.

Cassandra was actually pretty good at chess. As long as she was playing someone she could see. Even in board games there was a lot of unintentional body language to read, after all.

But that wasn't an option with the computer so she decided the best way to get a good grade was the caffeine route. She walked out of the classroom.

Half an hour later she came back frowning. Where was the caffeine? How was she going to get an A?

"Good effort, at least," said Mike. "I even tried Excedrin for my headache since it has caffeine, but somehow, all they have in stock at Turtle & Canary is the version that doesn't have any caffeine and my regular bottle is empty."

Sora

Sora sadly lasted about fifteen minutes against the computer. Strategy was not really his forté. He did like how the chess pieces were all animated though, that was kinda cool.

Ferris Bueller

Ferris totally cheated. Cheating was absolutely a legitimate strategy.
