How to Survive Your Own Cooking, Tuesday Mar 11

Onion Knight stood at the front of the class, on Lulu's desk. He waved at the class as they came in and pointed his wee little sword at the board, where Lulu had written a note:

Today,, it began, you have the recipes from the second class at your individual stations. Get into groups of three at each station, and then Liir will provide variations on each recipe. Look to him for guidance in this case. (Yes, Liir, this means that you don't need to join a group this week; help out others as they need it.)

Follow Liir's variations, or vary them again yourselves; still, the basis for each recipe must remain what you learned in the second class. That means no frying bacon in a frying pan.

Although I do recommend frying the bread in the syrup-bacon grease mixture from the baking sheet, once the bacon is finished.

Again, listen to Liir; he'll provide what guidance you need for this class. I'll return for the last ten minutes of class to supervise clean-up, and to see what you have all accomplished.

Once he'd indicated the note, Onion Knight flopped himself onto the side of the desk, swinging his legs merrily over the edge.

[Plz to be waiting for OCD is up!]

Liir was far too busy facepalming.

He's right here, nervous as anything and sure that this is all his own fault for the brownie he'd given Miss Lulu.

No good deed goes unpunished indeed!

Introduction

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-03-11 03:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Liir looked at the Onion Knight as if he could possibly kill it give it a wedgie with his mind before turning to the class.

"Well," he said at first, "t-this is as much of a surprise to me as it is to you."

Stupid stutter!

"B-but I'm sure this won't be too hard. B-breakfast is an easy enough meal and one that can be enjoyed at any time. So give me just, uh, a moment and I'll have something up for you.

"A-and if anyone needs help or doesn't like what I've come up with or just wants to c-c-chat really, do feel free to call for me. Um. Liir. Yes."

Amano Makoto!

Makoto was definitely taking advantage of the fact that he was a 'girl' to quietly giggle over the Onion Knight.

What? It was just that cute.

Recipe 1: Homemade Cereal

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-03-11 04:03 pm (UTC)(link)
"For all that I do like the original recipe here (http://mistressofblack.livejournal.com/5943.html), it certainly doesn't encourage any experimentation."

He dug into the spice racks and over to the closet where they kept the dry supplies. A moment's thought brought him to the fridge as well and more ingredients were added.

"Think about foods you enjoy, specifically baked goods. Try making something like a breakfast version of your favorite cookies. Get creative with spices. I'd suggest ginger or cinnamon. Perhaps add a bit of chocolate shavings while you're cooking them up, or" and he held up the vegetable in question "if you prefer a carrot cake, try something in that direction. The possibilities are endless; don't let your perception of boring oatmeal block you from trying things out."

Recipe 2: Eggs

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-03-11 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
He looked at the handout.

"There's more ways to do eggs than just scrambled. Try" and he scribbled out his notes onto a few pieces of paper "coddled (http://whatscookingamerica.net/Eggs/CoddledEgg.htm), poached (http://whatscookingamerica.net/Eggs/PoachEgg.htm), shirred (http://whatscookingamerica.net/Eggs/BakedEgg.htm), or fried (http://whatscookingamerica.net/Eggs/FriedEgg.htm) instead. Instructions are available for whichever one you're interested in."

Recipe 3: Bacon

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-03-11 04:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"There are other things you can season bacon with. Try spicing it or wrapping it around things as you cook it to create an exchange of flavors. There's all sorts of things you can do."

Recipe 4: Toast

[identity profile] new-to-liirness.livejournal.com 2008-03-11 04:10 pm (UTC)(link)
"You could try what the" stupid bloody "doll came up with, or we could do Munchk--er, French toast, I think it's called here. Here, I've written out a simple recipe (http://southernfood.about.com/od/frenchtoastrecipes/r/bl30118b.htm)."

"A little warning would have been nice," he said, though not upset. Just a bit frazzled.

He took a cupcake and handed back a small bag of cookies (http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Orange-Cranberry-Drops/Detail.aspx).

He shook his head and bit into the cupcake.

"...these are very good, though."

"You as well," he said with a strange sort of smile.

People with faith in him. He never really understood it.

"At least that there's more than one way to make eggs."

"How long did you live on scrambled?" he asked with a faint smile.

"The Witch preferred hers coddled, usually."
