Lawyering Up, Week 5: Wed, Period 2 (2/6)

"Entertainment law," Nathan said as he passed that week's handouts around, "focuses on law as it applies to movies, television, music - if it entertains you, there's a lawyer involved somewhere in it. If said lawyer is lucky enough to be with the right performer or studio, there's a nice chunk of change to be made here. If that's the sort of thing you're into."

Nathan leaned against the front of his desk. "Entertainment Law is big news at the moment thanks to a little thing you may have heard of called the WGA strike. This is contract law at its most nitty-gritty, with both sides bringing out their biggest guns to try to get the best agreement.

"That's where you come in," Nathan said. "Pair up. One of you gets to represent the studios. The other the writers. Try to figure out a deal that both of you can live with so the strike can be brought to a close. Who knows? Come up with a good enough idea and maybe we'll send it on to Hollywood. Wouldn't be the first time a bunch of school kids were smarter than the networks."

[ooc: OCD a-coming is up!]

I will gladly trade your family members for mine. They don't watch reality shows at all! Of course, that's because if the TV is on, it's tuned to Fox News...

Here, you can come live with my family. All we watch is the Discovery Channel for Bear Grylls and Mike Rowe. And my mom has this weird fascination with Jamie from Mythbusters and his beret.

Annette took key notes and went over the handouts. She was preoccupied in this, yo.

Annette decided to share another lawyer joke and really hoped that Professor Petrelli didn't take offense. It was a really cute one, she thought!

"Two alligators are sitting on the edge of a swamp.

The small one turns to the big one and says; "I don't understand how you can be so much bigger than me. We're the same age, we were the same size as kids... I just don't get it."

"Well," says the big alligator, "what have you been eating?"

"Lawyers, same as you," replies the small alligator.

"Hm. Well, where do you catch'em?"

"Down at that law firm on the edge of the swamp."

"Same here. Hm. How do you catch'em?"

"Well, I crawl under a BMW and wait for someone to unlock the door. Then I jump out, bite'em, shake the be’jesus out of 'em, and eat'em!"

"Ah!" says the big alligator, "I think I see your problem. See, by the time you get done shakin' the be’jesus out of a lawyer, there's nothing' left but lips and a briefcase...""

Annette couldn't help but grin when she told it.

It probably wasn't going to help negotiations, but Isabel made a small picket sign and stuck it on the end of her pen.

My family is into: HGTV (Mom), History Channel & Sports (little bro), Horse Racing (stepdad) and E!, VH1 & LOGO (little sis). I don't think any of them particularly care about the strike.

They need to do The Bear & Mike Show. It would be very simple. They could just stand around and look pretty. Or possibly get dirty. And then need to strip down to clean off....

I'll be in my bunk.
