Fandom High Admin Post
Good morning. A few announcements for you all.
First and foremost, we’re still working on the structure of the game. It was begun mostly unregulated and we’ve been building a structure to help with administration and to meet growing player needs as we go.
There will be a number of changes instituted for the next few weeks as we try to make the game easier to play and also easier to manage.
Everyone should be familiar with the rules and have them bookmarked and/or saved to their memories.
fandomtownies is again on moderated status due to the large number of disappearances and also the increasing number of players who are in the sex/crime industry. This is not the appropriate venue for that sort of thing, being a High School setting. Those already in existence are fine, but there will be no further approvals for prostitution/sex – in part because the Town is not meant to be a haven for people evading the vice squad.
There will be an application process for Townies from here on out. An application is being put together - suitable for cutting and pasting into your character journal info-page and thus making it easier for the administration and other players to find out about you and your business at a glance.
Tomorrow, an open request will go out for five new teachers. We are in need of people to fill positions in Math, Computers and Philosophy especially. An application will be provided. I would also like to remind all current teachers that your journal info page should have the information necessary for your students to leave you a voice mail and find your syllabus. When trying to track our current teachers, I found several info pages that did not even list the subject taught. Please review the rules on that topic.
Note: If your class information is up on the website, a link to that information will be more than sufficient.
Another topic to be addressed is that of student absences. If you have to be away from the computer for an extended period, your student will miss classes. Please don’t make a random post asking your teachers to just assume you’re in class. There are such things as excused absences and it is easy enough to notify your professor in a class thread or in their voice mail that you’ve been called home. The teachers are already putting in extra time and effort to keep track of the classes. Please help make their job easier by informing them directly when you want to have credit for time missed.
This post was originally meant to contain more information, but I’m currently fighting a severe headache over recent developments.
1. God modding.
If you are doing anything that affects another player, their possessions or doing something that a certain player would (through magic or other means) be aware of, you are required to clear it with the player first.
I have received multiple complaints on several fronts on this topic so I want to be perfectly clear about this.
Do NOT do anything to/concerning another character without that player’s permission. An accidental violation is one thing. A second complaint will lead to a warning from the admins. A third complaint will lead to asking you to leave the game.
2. OOC/IC Knowledge.
It is very, very important that you keep a clear line between what you know and what your character knows. Given the number of mages, psychics, aliens, mind-readers, bugs and ‘other’ around here, unless you’re taking insane pains to keep something a secret… someone, somewhere will know.
I just ran across a bunch of stuff regarding
fandom_radio and I’m very, very unhappy with the fact that people apparently are having issues with it and instead of taking said questions or issues to the admin are starting a public debate on something which, frankly, is not a player decided issue. This is not the way to make friends and influence people, particularly among the admin.
((Please note, I haven’t heard from Dean Bristow today, so if he was contacted first, you may have my apologies.))
Fandom Radio is IC until you hit a link, when it becomes OOC. Anything you learn from the links is OOC unless you were directly involved or informed of it by someone who was… or if you’re psychic or if you bugged the place.
Any bugging and the like MUST be arranged in advance. Saying afterward that you did something without the admin knowing in advance will be disallowed.
If you have a problem, you are supposed to take it to the admin. This is the sort of nonsense that leads to people showing up on Bad RPers Suck or Fandom Wank and, frankly, I’d prefer not to have that happen again.
Keep what is IC for your character to know firmly in mind and disregard the rest.
If you keep clear communication with the other players. If you check on AIM, write e-mails, check voice-mails… if you speak to each other and clear what you do or don’t know before acting/posting all of this nonsense can be avoided.
Use the posted contact information… and from this point out, it is mandatory that you have a voicemail post for your character – linked to your info page – and a listed e-mail address. In a game this large, there needs to be very clear information exchange between players and I have received numerous e-mails from players wanting to be clear about how their plots will affect others, how others plots are affecting them, etc.
These players are to be commended for their care and dedication. Please emulate them. Talk to each other. Talk to the admin. Communicate clearly. Do not use OOC information and do not god mode.
I’m going to go take something for my headache and go back to putting together application forms.
Thank you for your observance.
