US Government [Tuesday, November 13, 1st period]

"Okay, gang, the original plan today was going to be a trip into town to visit the folks at the White House, but if I drag in a bunch of kids carrying the latest flu strain, I'll never hear the end of it. So we'll just reschedule that for next week and watch a movie today instead," Josh said. "We've got coffee, tea, and pastries, and in honor of Veterans Day, a couple episodes of a great miniseries that shows life as soldiers in World War II called ~~Band of Brothers~~ This Ain't No St. Crispin's Day Speech."

Josh sat back down at his desk and flipped on the DVD player. "Enjoy."

If you mod explosions, random sniper fire and an amazing amount of UST, you're not far off.

Who has hopefully brought us non-contaminated baked goods.

He's totally bummed about not seeing his friends today.

I work half-days on Tuesdays now (boo work, yay money), so I'll be back to pick up pings by 1PST.

Lana came in looking pale and drawn. She'd had terrible dreams all night, which hopefully hadn't woken Chris and had woken with a splitting headache which she'd definitely downplayed so as not to worry him. The trip to J GOB had wiped her out and she'd barely made it to class without passing out.

And now she could feel a fever starting. She couldn't ever remember a cold that came on this fast and hard. But she just had this class and Mr. Phale's to get through and then she could back back to her room and crash.

Hermione was paying quite a bit of attention to the movie. And may have been looking for historical inaccuracies.

She tried to muffle her cough during the movie, partly to not disturb the others and partly because every movement made her now blinding headache even worse. She was shaking from the chills and fever and finally just gave in and put her head down on her desk and closed her eyes.

Anathema Device

Anathema frowned at the announcement and made a note to head over to the clinic as soon as possible.

Aly figured the trip would be canceled and stopped into Josh's class just to make sure he wasn't getting sick.

Josh watched Lana worriedly, then finally walked over and crouched down by her desk. "Hey, kiddo," he said, "let's head over to the clinic, okay?"

Josh gave her a wry smile. "You okay?" he asked. "I had to take Lana to the clinic. It's a zoo."

"I'm fine," she protested, shivering. She tried to pick her head up. "I'm watching the movie, see. Just... just going to go back to my room and rest after -"

A coughing fit wouldn't let her finish her sentence and she put her hands to her head. "God... hurts so much."

"I'm fine," she said, smiling back. "Just...not able to figure out what's going on."

"Yeah, we're leaving right now," Josh decided. He turned to look at the rest of the class. "Hermione, you're in charge."

He held out a hand. "Let's go, Lana."

Everything hurt too much for her to be able to protest anymore. She took Josh's hand and tried to stand, but ended up needing to lean on him heavily to be able to stay upright. "Sorry," she whispered. "Thought I'd be okay."

Josh raised an eyebrow. "It's not the flu?"

She shrugged. "Weird pattern of contagion, and the doctors seem to think it's spreading and an awfully rapid rate."

...that and it was magic.

"Later, we'll have a little chat about how classes aren't as important as feeling better," Josh said, "but for now, let's just get you better (http://community.livejournal.com/fandomtownies/2263386.html?thread=101469018#t101469018)."

"You've talked to the doctors?" Josh ran his hands through his hair. "I didn't like recognizing so many names on the radio last night. A good chunk of those kids are on Student Council."

"Lot of them have been in my classes too. You'd think this island would think it's enough throwing children and dinosaurs at us. Do we really need sicknesses too?"

Josh moved so he could wrap his arms around Aly. "I'd say no, but I don't remember this being up for a vote."

She leaned into him for a moment, sliding her arms around him. "Hmpf. Remind me to write a letter of complaint."

"I'd even sign it with you," Josh replied, kissing her on the forehead.

"Awww, you're so sweet," she teased, unable not to find that funny.

"I try," Josh said with a small smile. "I'd offer you a pastry but Lana brought them by and that just seems like it's asking for trouble."

She made a face. "No, I don't want the germs. What about you? How are you feeling?"

"Fine," Josh assured her. "Feeling like I should call my mom and get her recipe for Jewish mom chicken soup, but not headachy or anything. You?"

"Fine," she said quickly. "I don't do sick."

"That is very good to hear," Josh said, giving her another squeeze.
