Tuesday, November 6, Second Period

The classroom today was decorated with posters and charts referring back to all of the hands-on prophecy activities the class had undertaken so far. Once every was settled in, Aziraphale stood to address the class.

"Today, rather than a written quiz, you're going to have a practical exam. There will be two parts: a reading for yourself, and a reading for one other classmate. A person can receive more than one reading if necessary. The only stipulation is that you choose one of the assigned methods for each reading."

Part One: Do a reading for yourself, using cartomancy, tea reading, or I Ching.

Part Two: Do a reading for a classmate, using chieromancy, chrystallomancy, or cartomancy.

"When you are finished, you may use the rest of the class time to read or talk quietly.

Announcement of Special Project: During our class time on November 20, we will be meeting at the Perk for an extra credit project. Throughout second period, you will be giving free fortune readings to anyone who comes by and asks for one. This is not a required activity. Extra credit will be applied to participants, but the attendance requirement will be waved for that day. Please catch me after class if you have questions."

"Oh, it is!" Chris said, getting flustered by her tone. "But it's unusual."

"What's wrong with having an unusual name?" Anathema challenged.

"Nothing! Nothing at all! I just... it's not a name you hear every day and I was trying to make conversation and... sorry if I offended you."

Chris may have been cowing back a bit.

Eve Levine

Eve did an I Ching reading for herself, since it was one of the ones she was least experienced with.

And then she looked around to see who wanted to partner up with her.

Annette did a tea reading on herself.

Annette was drawing hearts in her notebook. As you do.

Savannah Levine

Lana did an I-ching reading about her love life - just for fun and got:
Hexagram 45 - Ts'ui (Gathering Together): The king will repair to his ancestral temple. It will be advantageous to meet with the great man. Then there will be progress and success, though the advantage must come through firm correctness. The use of great victims will be conducive to good fortune, and in whatever direction movement is made, it will be advantageous.

The topmost line, divided, shows its subject sighing and weeping, but there will be no error. The situation is evolving slowly, and Yang (the active masculine force) is gaining ground. The future says there is a lack of understanding between the different classes of men, and its indication is unfavorable to the firm and correct course of the superior man. We see in it greatness gone and the lesser come upon us. The things most apparent, show joy, pleasure, and attraction giving way to strength and creativity. The things least apparent represent docility and receptivity.

The weeping and sighing didn't sound good, but the evolving slowly sounded about right. Overall, she wasn't too sure about it.

Lana looked over. "Interested in partnering up?" she asked.

Lana playfully reached over and doodled a bit in his notebook.

Chris smiled. "How are you today?"

"I'm good and you?"

"Better now," he said, giving her a wink.

She smiled and blushed, ducking her head. "Oh, you."

"Oh me what?" he asked, his eyes twinkling.

She blushed more. "That was a very nice thing for you to say."

"It's the truth," Chris said.

"I'm glad," she said quietly. "My day always seems better when you're there as well."

He smiled. "Good, then I'm doing my job right."

"Your job?" she asked a little uncomfortably.

Chris frowned at her reaction. "I... was making a joke. You know, comparing, being a bo... um... you know, a dating relationship to work. Because all relationships are work."

She nodded. "Okay. I just.. for a minute I was thinking maybe this was all just to, you know... make me feel better. And I would have been really disappointed if that was all it was."

"Because I really care about you. Alot."

"Oh, god, Lana. No. I keep telling you that I like you," he said.

"I know, I'm sorry, I don't mean to..." She shook her head. "Just forget I said anything. I'm just happy that you're glad to see me."
