Combined Mathematics #7 [Friday 10-26, Period 4]

Mr. Beaubier leaned against his desk and told the students, "The time has come for me to be a mean, cruel, horrible person. Yes," he said, and paused dramatically, "it is time for your midterm exams. Hopefully you all have used your time off well and studied at least a bit. Please come forward, turn in your worksheets on multiplication and division, and take an exam. You will have the rest of the class period to work on it."

Naomi had done a fair amount of studying and as a result she did very well on the test.

[ooc: Naomi would have gotten an A]

Adah finished the test easily; the progression of difficult ended up putting her in a good mood because she actually felt challenged (and accomplished as a result) by the end of it. She still managed to finish it with a potentially obnoxious amount of time left. Word problems had been a little problematic, but she translated the words into a number code so that her notes on those on probably made no sense at all to anyone else, but the answer did come out correctly and verified with more....traditional means.

"Test?" Charlie head-desked. "Noooo...."

Charlie's re-mastered the basics, and she managed okay on the word problems (thank you, Rodney). She completely trashed the extra-credit and the last three questions though, due to not checking her work. About a B-.

[Always check your work!]

Peter had a fairly simple time with this exam. There were a couple points where he wasn't really focusing resulting in a sloppy job of showing his work, but overall it was simple.

"Hey now," Rodney spoke to the top of Charlie's head, "you've been doing... better lately. You'll be fine." He wasn't very good at being encouraging.

Rodney breezed through the test and then went back to check over his answers before turning it in. He didn't want to be caught making any basic mistakes in front of his girlfriend, after all.

[ooc: Total A here.]

"I totally forgot this was coming up, though!" Charlie facepalmed a bit. "I've probably forgotten everything since before break." She tried not to hyperventilate. "Speed. Then distance. Right?"

"Well, each variable is," Rodney broke off his explanation. Anything he told her at this point would probably just cause her more confusion. "Just, um, make sure you read each question carefully so you know what you need to solve for. That's what trips most people up when it comes to word problems. But you'll do fine," he repeated.

Charlie gave him a grateful look, and took a deep breath. Then another, wishing she had a paper bag to breathe into. "Reading I can do. And the variables... right. One at a time." Gulp.

Rodney grinned when he saw her pulling herself back together. He was usually the one who had to be talked out of an incipient panic attack, so this was a new experience for him. He turned back to the front of the room and prepared to focus on the midterm.

Hermione aced it. Good and hard. And spent the rest of class checking over her answers a dozen times just to be sure.

Bart, once more became distracted by some of the problems, doodling a little elephant in the margins of the test with the daydream that it's a magical, math problem solving elephant.

But he did eventually write answers. Most of them even correct!

(A/B- for the elephant doodles)
