Art 101, Period 4, Class 5 (Monday 10-1)

"This," Steve said with a grin as he faced the class, "is where the rubber meets the road. Ink can be an unforgiving medium. It doesn't erase, like a pencil. It spills. It stains your hands. This is one of my favorite ways to draw, but really, no pressure. You can use ink in a lot of different ways--printing, stamping, painting, calligraphy. Today we're going to use it in pens. Each of you have a couple of options. For those that are feeling adventurous, you can fill your own pens. Each station has six colors of ink to play around with, a few empty bottles in case anyone feels like experimenting with mixing, and several empty fountain pens. Or you can simply use the pre-filled kind, there's nothing wrong with that." He held up a package of these and said wryly, "Of course, these also have the benefit of all sorts of colors. So those of you playing with the fountain pens can use them to supplement your color palette. So. Your assignment for today is to draw an illustration, and you are free to interpret that as you see fit. Have fun, and if anyone needs help, I'm right here."

Sulley hung up his homework, a picture of soup cans and a box of baking soda.

Sulley was not great with the coordination with tiny things. He wound up with several colors of ink staining his fur in different patches.

A.J.'s still-life was of an arrangement of paint and brushes and jars. He felt it was very...he wasn't sure. He just thought it was cool, mostly.

Ooooh, ink-mixing. A.J.'s definitely getting into the technical aspects and mixing all the colors he wants to use, partly because he could, mostly just because he remembered that he knows how to do all this stuff.

Sora hung up his artwork that he beamed proudly at. If you looked at it sideways and squinted it kinda looked like the Squishy machine at Turtle and Canary.

Sora looked forward to the ink, thinking himself too coordinated to spill it.

Oh Sora, pride goeth before the fall.

Savannah hung up her drawing of a computer sitting on a desk.

Savannah was happily mixes colours and filling pens as she drew things on her paper.

Mixing ink was just like potion making, after all.

John hung up a very colorful still life of a stapler and pencil cup.

John managed to get ink all over his hands, but he smeared it onto the paper, making some cool ink blots.

Naminé

Re: Hang Up Your Homework

[identity profile] palestshadow.livejournal.com 2007-10-01 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Naminé's still life was a drawing of a few objects stacked on one another on her bed: Alea's cat toys, a few of her crayons, a paperback book, a blue-and-white paper eye mask.

Naminé was trying again to draw a castle (http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v328/Rellyjean/namine/drawings/06.jpg). And hoping it didn't appear this time.

Naminé was oddly fond of the ink-stains that were appearing on her fingers.
