Music 101 (for Thursday)

Music 101

[OOC: If you don't show up for classes 3 weeks in a row, I'm just going to assume you don't want the class anymore and I'll take you off the enrolment list. No biggie, but just letting you know! This class is very laid back because Ted is very laid back. If it was me (the mun) teaching I'd run you all ragged. But all Ted expects you to do is show up and make a single comment. You can argue, agree, start a food fight, anything so long as you comment to show you have shown up to class. This class is played slow-time, so provided you comment by the time the next class post comes along you're counted as attending.]

Afternoon dudes!

*The classroom is set up so that there's a central round table with all of the chairs around it where the students can sit. It's best not to ask if Ted stole it off King Arthur.*

*Ted drops a new stash of junk food and cans of soda in the middle of the table where everyone can reach.*

This week we're gonna talk about what you little dudes and babes were supposed to do for homework. You all took a tape from the basket near the door, and I asked you dudes to listen to it and then come to this class and talk about what you thought of it. Hopefully this'll start some discussion. If not, I'll uh think of something!

This Week's Class Task: This week I just want you to say what you thought about the tape you picked. If you think someone's wrong about their tape, or if you agree, say so! Get talking. How many classes do you get where the teacher will let you talk all you want? Except Speech classes [OOC: Pick a song from the 70s or 80s and comment on it.]

Homework: Next week's gonna be about music in movies. So watch your favorite movies and come prepared to talk about soundtracks, background music and theme music. [OOC: Really, pick a movie, any movie.]

Current Class Roster
[OOC: if you have a number next to your name that means you've missed that many classes in a row. If you show up to one class it gets reset. Again, let me reiterate that I really don't mind whether you show up to this class or not. The numbers are just so YOU can keep track. :) If you don't want to be in this class anymore, comment and I'll take you off the roster.]

I be pullin' a cassette from Metallica, who I already be a fan of fer their rendition of "Whiskey in the Jar." Fer class I be listenin' to their mighty fine ditty "Unforgiven."

I do be lovin' their drivin' beats and their interestin' 'n insightful lyrics. Did anyone else listen to Metallica?

[identity profile] fullmetal-havoc.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 02:42 am (UTC)(link)
Uhm... I grabbed a "Prince" tape, and had to listen to When Doves Cry all week. What the hell was that guy ON?

[identity profile] whitedeathpod.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 02:53 am (UTC)(link)
I snagged Duran Duran's Hungry Like the Wolf. While I thought the use of the fastly paced rhythm was very toe tapping, the thought of knowing someone out there might be THAT hungry scares me a little.

And Simon LeBon has a really big nose.

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
::clears throat::

I listened to "The Safety Dance" by Men Without Hats.

They apparently believed in dancing whenever you want. And how your friends should all dance. And if your friends don't dance, well then apparently they aren't friends of the band.

...I didn't understand it. At all.

[identity profile] psycho-barbie.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
*vaguely grumpy*

I listened to some group called Cheap Trick, I Want You To Want Me.

It was very...peppy.

[identity profile] master-of-fear.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
I listened to "Take On Me" by A-Ha. It was....pretty good. Very catchy, definitely something I would love to listen to if I were going on a road trip. And the lyrics were good.

Yeah.

[identity profile] master-of-fear.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 03:23 am (UTC)(link)
[ooc: And don't forget the midgets dancing around the maypole!]

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 03:25 am (UTC)(link)
[ooc: The icon. So. Very. Awesome.]

[identity profile] psycho-barbie.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
*throws note at head*

Wearing your stupid shirt (http://img126.imageshack.us/img126/9838/stupidshirt8gz.jpg). Happy?

[identity profile] whitedeathpod.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 03:29 am (UTC)(link)
THAT is not the shirt I designed!

*fumes*

But you're very pretty in it.

[identity profile] psycho-barbie.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 03:51 am (UTC)(link)
*rolls eyes*

*plots dye-based revenge*

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
::laughs::

It's still the exact same shirt, Crichton.
soldtoarmenians: (Default)

Dude, sir. Please tell me somebody spiked your bucket o' tapes? Because I got Tiffany. I Think We're Alone Now.

Please, even if it's a lie, just so I can maintain my deep respect for you.

[identity profile] sunny-skyes.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Sora is still listening to his tape. "I got a group called Queen, which is kinda weird cause I think they were all guys. But I really liked all their music, specially Bohemian Rapsody it was totally cool the way that they were singing like it was a story and junk!... " He trails off and pauses a moment thinking. "And for some reason I started banging my head to it and got a bag neck ache" Rubs his neck.

[identity profile] scissors--.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
ow meh, i wanted to say a-ha...now i have to come up with something new :S

[identity profile] alchemy-4-arson.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 06:13 am (UTC)(link)
I ended up with "Cheeseburger in Paradise" by Jimmy Buffet. The song appears to be an ode to some kind of meal, as well a metaphor for something. But I don't know what a cheeseburger is so I think the metaphor went over my head. Do they serve cheeseburgers in the cafeteria?

[identity profile] alchemy-4-arson.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
Good point.

The next time the cafeteria really frightens me I'll probably take you up on that, thanks.

[identity profile] scissors--.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 06:34 am (UTC)(link)
((OOC: i actually had to google this cause when the 80s ended i was...3 or so 0.o))

Well, i listened to nick cave and the bad seeds, the song was called 'the mercy seat'. I thought it was an...odd song. Kinda. And the tape was not really cooperating with me. 0.o

[identity profile] psycho-barbie.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 06:40 am (UTC)(link)
*notices Ted twitching*

Uh...teach, you okay?

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 12:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I listened to Alice by Sisters Of Mercy, part of the gothic movement, I don't know quite what to say. It was brilliant and made me want to do the 2-step (ooc- classic goth dance if you aren't up on the scene)

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 02:22 pm (UTC)(link)
::grumbles:: How come I couldn't grab a tape like that?

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 02:23 pm (UTC)(link)
*Paige smiles* What did you get?

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 02:25 pm (UTC)(link)
The Safety Dance by Men Without Hats.

It was... confusing. But it was kinda funny, I'll give it that.

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 02:27 pm (UTC)(link)
*Paige laughs* Yeah I think I've heard that one, I kinda picked through the box for something that looked good and well I didn't see any Depeche so figured Sisters of Mercy would do

(ooc- I have the safety dance in my head now :/)

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 02:30 pm (UTC)(link)
See, you had a distinct advantage... I have no idea what sort of groups you guys have around here, or anything. I just sorta had to grab one at random, rather than pick one I knew I'd like.

::laughs:: Cheater!

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 02:35 pm (UTC)(link)
*Paige laughs back* Well if we have to do it again I'll pick something for you ok? I'm Paige by the way, you were at my party last week right?

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 02:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah... I think so. I don't remember a whole lot about that night, though, ::nervous laugh::

I'm Cally... I'd offer to shake right now, but... ::raises her heavily bandaged hands:: I really shouldn't. ::smile::

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 02:40 pm (UTC)(link)
*Paige frowns* Shit, what happened?

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 03:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Second-degree burns. Flamethrowers get a little hot, when used. ::embarassed laugh::

Then I went and broke open most of the blisters Monday. ::face scrunches::

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 03:03 pm (UTC)(link)
right that doesn't sound good *she lowers her voice* I might be able to heal you you know? If you want me to try?

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 03:07 pm (UTC)(link)
You know what? I am so sick of having to need Joan's help getting dressed in the morning. And knocking on doors with my forehead.

Please... if you think you can help.

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 03:10 pm (UTC)(link)
*Paige smiles* I'll try, I'm not totally sure what makes my powers work, but I'll give it a go. I'll need to take the bandages off first though ok?

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 03:13 pm (UTC)(link)
::nods:: Okay... you think Ted would mind doing it here, or should we wait until after class?

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 03:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah maybe we should do it in my room, or yours if you'd prefer, I think I'll do better without distractions

[identity profile] sogothcally.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 03:22 pm (UTC)(link)
Alright... I'm up in Room 213 (http://www.livejournal.com/users/sogothcally/5007.html). I'll meet you there after class, okay? ::smiles::

[identity profile] the4thsister.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Cool I'll see you there

(ooc- have to disappear for an hour ish, will come heal Cally then)

[identity profile] aroseintime.livejournal.com 2005-09-29 10:22 pm (UTC)(link)
I got a hold of "Alive" by Pearl Jam. Eddie Vedder's voice is fantastic! You can really hear the emotion when he sings. Also, that guitar solo toward the end is brilliant!

[identity profile] soniabelmont.livejournal.com 2005-09-30 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
Let's see, I got... *looks at notes* "School's Out," by, erm, Alice Cooper? I don't think I've ever seen a man named Alice.

The song vas...

Um.

It vas...qvite different.

He has a nice voice, either vay.
