Science! (Thursday, Period 7)

"Good afternoon students!" Ms Frizzle said with a bounce and a spin. "My apologies for cancelling our last class on such short notice, but let's get right back into the swing of things! The end of the year and your final science fair projects are coming up fast, so don't forget to talk to me about those sometime soon!

"Now, we can start the lesson as soon as I finish my lunch! Liz, where's my tuna sandwich?"

The lizard looked a little bit sheepish as she held up a handful of what looked like green guck, but the Friz laughed delightedly. "A wonderful start, Liz! Looks like it's time to take chances, make mistakes, and get . . . wet! Everyone to the bus!"

The Friz smiled as the bus rolled over the sand. "The best way to learn about something is to jump right," she said. "So hold on tightly, class!" The bus lurched. It flopped. It flipped. And then it jumped up and into the water, just like a dolphin. The students would find themself in multi-coloured diving suits.

Liz pointed excitedly out the front window at the green scum floating ahead of them. "Shall we take a closer look?" Ms Frizzle asked, looking pleased. She pressed a button and suddenly the bus was shrinking. "There we go!" she said. "We are now as tiny as the green phytoplankton. Class, please put on the specially designed underwater breathing masks that you will find under your seats. Then off we go! Remember, look for connections!"

Much bigger creatures began floating by, chomping on the phytoplankton the students were swimming with. "Look out, children!" Ms Frizzle called as she was swept up in the net the bus had extended to catch them all. "All aboard! As my Uncle Emeril always says, it's better eat lunch than be lunch!" And with a spin and a whoosh, they grew to the size of the thing that had just tried to eat them. "We are now zooplankton!"

"Now, class, you see that "huge thing" over there?" Ms Frizzle pointed out the front windshield at the giant fish munching on the zooplankton surrounding them. "That is an anchovy." She pressed a yellow button, and the bus grew again. In a few seconds, they were as big as the anchovies. "So you see, children, the scum is phytoplankton. Phytoplankton is eaten by zooplankton. Zooplankton are eaten by anchovies, and anchovies are eaten by bigger fish, like -"

Everything went very dark.

The bus bounced against something and came to a stop. Ms Frizzle turned on the interior lights. "Class," she announced, "we are now inside an albacore tuna."

"Hold still, everyone!" Ms Frizzle smiled. "Here's our chance!" A fishhook appeared ahead of them, and a clamp shot out from the top of the bus, latching onto it. The school bus whizzed out of the tuna's mouth and through the water as someone reeled them in. A huge face peered at them as they dangled from a fishing line.

"Another school bus!" the fisherwoman said thoughtfully. "Second one today. Back it goes!" She unhooked the bus and tossed it back in the ocean.

"Don't worry, children," said the Friz as she pressed another button on the dashboard. "When in the surf, do as the surfers do!" she yelled over the sound of the waves, and they were all surfing back to shore on the back of the Magic School Surfboard, Liz clinging to Ms Frizzle's arm.

The bell was ringing when they made the school again, a tuna sandwich waiting on the Friz's desk for her. "Have a good weekend, children! Try to stay your normal ages and genders!"

I think 'MSB Gets Eaten' has two of my favourite lines - "Class, we are now inside an albacore tuna." and "Another school bus! Second one today."

Looking for a volunteer for next week's class to have their body explored and not in the dirty way, omg.

Sokka!

Sokka was overjoyed to discover that the slimy mess he had often had to scrape off boats' hulls was actually made up of millions of tiny, slimy blobs. Overjoyed. Really. This is his happy face.

Nova

Now, see, shrimp were awesome. And funny-looking. Even if these were extra-tiny shrimp.

Sokka chuckled. "Shrimp," he said to himself, amusedly. "They're like ugly bugs, but tasty."

Tuna?

Sokka looked around the bus for any sort of sharp thing. He raised his hand.

"Excuse me, Ms. Frizzle?" he asked. "Do we have any spears?"

He could kill this baby from the inside, and then they'd all feast.

Sokka looked back over his shoulder as they surfed along.

"We just cost that lady her dinner!" he shouted to Ms. Frizzle over the surf.

"Sure, we'll try," Sokka muttered.

Turtle Wexler!

Ewww. Sloppy green stuffs. Turtle was more interested in trying to think of a more marketable name for 'specially designed underwater breathing masks' (at least they weren't specially designed underwater breather apparatuses....apparatii?). But she looked like she was really interested in the phytoplankton.

Hikaru Hitachiin

"Now I'm hungry," Turtle pouted. Well, she thought about pouting. Whether or not she could actually pout as a zooplankton was still to be determined.

"Don't worry, Sokka," Turtle smirked, "there's many more fish in the sea."

"Now someone's going to sue the company about making sure their tuna is bus, as well as dolphin, free," Turtle mused quietly.

Turtle was sad that they turned into plankton and stuff instead of, you know, turtles.

But she had walked down that road before.

Valentine!

Wearing a mask around a mask was not the simplest of feats, but somehow, Valentine managed. And he was thrilled about it.
He was less thrilled about the phytoplankton.

"Just imagine how many of us a shrimp at that size would feed," Valentine offered. "I'd like to get in on the next level of the food chain."

Valentine was too busy marveling about the fact that all of these fish existed underwater to worry too much about having just been eaten. This is probably a good thing, as there's a chance that he'd be screaming if he wasn't.

Valentine could agree with that.
But he rather liked being a director yesterday. It meant he got lattes. So he'd just focus on the gender and age, and be open to any future screenplay suggestions that may arise.

Those lines are winning lines, I agree. I cracked up at them in that episode.

And if you want to go on a trek through the inside of a Valentine, only his face is really different from the norm. He should do nicely.
