"My apologies for not coming to class last week. I had a feeling none of you would have appreciated me sharing a particularly nasty virus. I am glad to see that you're all alive and well after the rain nonsense and Seely and Z running last week's class.

Let's move on. Most of you will know this week's villain if only by reputation alone. There is debate as to whether the case files of Sherlock Holmes are fact or fiction and whether Sir Arthur Conan Doyle wrote them or if they were, in fact, passed on to Conan Doyle by Doctor John Watson, the narrator of the stories. To avoid any charges of defamation, let's assume they're fictional.

In Holmesian fashion, this week you will have to solve the mystery, track down your opponent before you can defeat them. Keep in mind that this week's topic is the evil genius and that in the evil genius you will often meet your match. Don't fall into their trap without a plan."

Elementary, my dear Watson.

As teenagers do.

The Danger Shop was set up as Victorian London. It was foggy and there were cobblestone roads and horse-drawn carriages about. This was a rather seedy part of London, so it was best to mind your pocket.

"You there!" Inspector Lestrade of Scotland Yard approached. "What with Holmes out of town, I suspect you'll be wanting to poke your nose into police affairs." Without waiting for you, he continued. "As you would know from the Times, this is the third murder of this kind. Strangulation and strange residue on the victim's clothing. It's almost as if the murderer is leaving a calling card, trying to get someone's attention. Take a look around if you'd like. Maybe you can find something we've missed."

Feel free to take a look around, mod what you find and mod your witnesses. See the next OCD thread for your next stop.

Upon arrival, a drunk staggered out the door and bumped into you. He slurred something incomprehensible and was on his way before you had a chance to say anything. The inside of the tavern was smokey and seedy and had the strong stench of something that's probably best not to ask about.

Shadowy tables with card games and drinking and murmured dealings littered the floor. There was a dart board and a pool table in place for the patrons who could still stand up properly.

"Allo. What'll it be?" the bartender boomed. He was probably the best man to point you in the direction of who you were looking for.

Feel free to mod your surroundings, the patrons and the bartender.

Coming down to the docks during the day was bad enough if you weren't used to it. Coming here at night wasn't at all wise. Wisdom had no place in the decision, however, because it seemed that the only way to get to the bottom of this was to follow the leads and the leads led right here to this dockside warehouse.

The windows are too blurry to see inside, but there is light and muffled words coming from inside.

"The great detective. We meet at last," a well-dressed man with an upper class British accent said. "Allow me to introduce myself. I am Professor James Moriarty at your service. I must admit that you kept me wondering if you were going to follow my little trail. There were moments when I thought the jig was up, so to speak. But now you are here and, while the gentleman in me wishes to offer you tea and crumpets, I'm afraid our all too brief meeting must come to an end.

You see, detective, we were destined to meet. Now, as I complete the final stages of my plan, I'm afraid that you are destined to die."

Considering how narrative was supposed to unfold and what Moriarty would undoubtedly do to ~~the Enterprise~~ London and you, it was probably best to stop him.

Tori was intrigued by today's class. She knew of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle and Sherlock Holmes. This was going to be tricky, but fun.

Pippi Longstocking.

Pippi looked around the area where the body was found. Pippi's favorite Holmes case was "The Red Headed League" and she often thought of starting one.

Then she inspected the victim's neck to see if she could discover with what the poor sod had been strangled and in what manner. (Face to face or from the side, or behind.)

She checked the hands and arms for signs of a struggle.

Then she inspected the clothing to see if she could deduce what it was and how it got there.

Pippi was about to order a stout when she suddenly seemed to remember something.

The law of tv murder mysteries states that the man who bumped into a moment ago must have been the murderer!

She checks her pockets for anything that's been added or taken.

Pippi leans against the wall and tries to listen.

"May I at least shake the hand of so great a criminal master mind before we lock our proverbial horns at last?" she asked offering her hand.
