Good morning and welcome to languages. I am Morpheus, Dream of the Endless. You may call me Dream.

Today I would like for us to get to know each other and talk about why we're here. Please take a few minutes to read the syllabus--if you have any questions about it, now's the time to ask. Then let's go around the room and introduce ourselves. Please also state why you're taking this class.

[ooc: rather than flood the comm with language classes, I'm going to have one general post for all classes and then comment groups for individual ones. Please comment with your class participation under the comment titled for your class.

Also I'm going to be at work all day and so will be in and out, mostly out. Will participate when I can.]

Welcome to Classics. If you want to bring in coffee to help you stay awake, that's up to you.

Good morning. Welcome to Indo-European. Why take a theoretical language, you might ask? And well you should.

Welcome to Languages of Asia. This class will be a challenge for most of you: it's an entirely new way of speaking.

Questions already? Let's get started, then.

Erm Hi I'm a little lost, I'm looking for Cat, that's tomorrow right?

Uh, yeah. Jubilation Lee here. *waves to everybody else in the room*

I guess I'm in this class because, you know, there's Chinese and I'm Chinese ... I just thought it'd be cool. *shrugs*

By 'coffee', do you mean, the regular kind, or any caffinated beverage?

Would it be okay if I took the other language classes as well? Languages are kind of a thing of mine. Even if its just auditing and not for credit.

Oh *sheepish* Also, Doug Ramsey, and *eyeroll* Yes, I'm that Jeopardy kid before anyone asks.

*sits down and lays out his supplies, cutting a new quill* Is this unusually early? I am usually accustomed to rising before sunrise.

Rogue stumbles in bleary-eyed, clutching a styrofoam cup in her gloved hand. She rubs her forehead, trying hard to keep her eyes open. She walks to a seat in the middle of the room, drops her backpack and sits. Her duo-toned hair is up in a ponytail, the white streaks contrasting oddly this early in the morning. Taking a swig of her iced tea (made properly in true Mississippi fashion, with a 2:1 sugar to tea ratio) she opens her notebook and prepares herself for class.

Rory pokes her head in the classroom, and glances around.

I'm not late, am I? I mean, I'm usually perfectly punctual, so I'm really sorry if I'm late. It won't happen again in the future.

Hi there. I'm Rory. That's so cool about you being Chinese and all...I wish I had some kind of culture association.

I guess I'm in this class because my entire life, my education has been incredibly...Westernized. Thought I'd get a different viewpoint.

Rogue glares at Balian, "While not 'unsually early,' it's a little early for some of us. Especially on the first day." She looks back down at her notebook and sips more on her iced tea. "I suspect I'll get used to it, but right now, I'm a little tired."

Ohayu-gozaimasu, sir.

*scans room, checks out other students' clothes, yawns, pulls out a nail file*

I'm Parker. I'm hoping to improve my Japanese, and supplement it with Chinese and Korean, so I'll be able to manage my family's resources in the Pacific Rim after college.

Thomasina enters the room clutching an excercise book, a pot of ink and a pen. She pauses, just inside the door, and looks around the room, as though unsure what to do. Then her expression clears and she lifts her chin.*

Salve, magister. Are we to sit anywhere we wish? Or are there to be assigned seats?

*Parker smiles sweetly and condescendingly at you for this, but refrains from making any remarks*

*Rory smiles back, ignoring her intuition telling her that this girl is attempting to act superior.*

Radek shuffles in, holding two take-away cups of coffee. He finishes one as he walks in the door and tosses it into the garbage. He slides into a chair and pulls out a notebook before starting on his second cup of coffee. "Hovno," he mutters to himself. "Why must I always pick early classes. Brain damaged..."

*glances at Jubilee's coat*

*flinches*

*ostentatiously looks away*

Phoebe wanders in, pulling her hair in a ponytail. She is awake, having been running errands for Spider. She smiles when she sees Rogue and slides into a seat near her.

Connor stumbles in ahead of his brother, though getting out of bed in time for an 8:00 class was difficult. Good thing it's a class he's really interested in.

He takes a seat, carefully guarding one next to him for Murphy.

Rogue drinks her tea and nods half-heartedly to Pheobe. "Why do you look so damn cheerful this early in the morning?" she mutters. It comes out in a half-growl, without her usual soft twang. In contrast, her voice is harsher, with a slight northern accent. She shakes her head, as if trying to rid herself of an annoying bug. "Sorry," she murmurs, her voice back to normal. "Not exactly a mornin' person."

Alan's pretty sure he saw Radek this morning, when he squinted across the deck attached to their ridiculously expansive new home.

He collapses into the next chair. "Hey."

*snickers darkly, then quickly covers up with an overly sweet and helpful smile* that's ohayou, dear. if you need any assistance in japanese, feel free to ask me

*stumbles in a moment later, collapsing in the seat his brother has saved*

*muttering* He said coffee's alright, then? Remind me ta see if there's a decent place ta get some - th' stuff from th' cafeteria's shite.

Outta be a Starbucks around 'ere.
