Popular Culture [Monday, January 22, 7th period]

Rose was not in a terribly good mood today, she was cranky and annoyed, definitely woke-up in the wrong side of the bed and her still slowplaying date had not gone well. But she tried to be professional and forcibly put it all in a box but annoy her today she may put you in detention.

There was a mobile phone, a laptop, a portable TV, and an iPod  arranged before the class.

"This lesson should be easy enough, it's about Earth technology and how to use it," Rose gestured to the gadgets behind her, "Each of these are the basic tech someone in this time period uses.  They're all , from our perspective easy enough to use. " She lifted the mobile, "This is a mobile phone, or in other countries, it's also called a cellphone. It is a portable communication device, could be used almost anywhere in the planet. The laptop," she pointed to it, "is a mobile computer, a machine used to do almost all complex things and sometimes not so complex, we use it to play games too, mostly it is also used for surfing the internet for porn. We will discuss the internet later in the semester, suffice it to say, internet is a network of computers that allows other people to share information in a global scale."

She turned to the portable TV, "This is a portable version of a television. I'm sure most of you know what a television is, it is sometimes called the idiot box because according to some critics, the TV turn people into 'idiots'. TV enables us to watch a lot of shows without leaving the comforts of home, for some, ever. And this," Rose picked-up the iPod with some reverence, "Is currently the manna from heaven. It's a portable music device that enables you to store more than a thousand songs."

"I'm going to pass these things along and allow you to tinker with it but remember, if you break it," here Rose looked around the room intensely, "I will not be amused and you will most certainly pay for it in detention."

(ooc: OCD up!)
(ooc: Early time posting once again, will be in at 5 pm PST. And, anyone wanting detention, please comment in thread.)

Edward definitely knew what a computer was ... he'd been around Fandom long enough to have played with them before. The only thing was he couldn't seem to get this one to connect to the internet. Woe, angst! Lack of porn!

Edward poked at the mobile phone, very quietly appreciative that they did NOT exist where he came from because the last thing he wanted or needed was to have tabs kept on him THAT closely.

Edward poked at the minature TV. Again, something he'd gotten used to during his time in Fandom was the fact that moving pictures were about a thousand times more advanced, but he was not used to the idea of them being THIS small. Plus, it was some weird show about child geniuses. "Yeah, come talk to me once you've tried to raise the dead," Edward muttered under his breath, passing the TV on.

Edward was shuffling through his notes, making a solid attempt to find his postulation on the effects of alchemy on modern-day tech, including computers. Because he can't possibly get into enough trouble with just his regular alchemy research.

Henry's figured out the phone in his room, but the cell phone was still a bit much for him. It looked like something out of Galaxy Quest. (He's been studying, can you tell?)

Henry hadn't used a computer yet, so he was happy to get a chance to toy with one. After watching some of the other students use it, he found it quite easy to use. Well, the basics were easy, at least.

Henry stared at the tiny television for a minute. TV programs were still rather hypnotizing to Henry, but he shook off the effect and moved on. He’d heard the teacher’s warning about the “idiot box.”

It was like his radio! But when Henry found that he couldn't change the station and get some Mozart, he got a little annoyed. And after a few more minutes of the pop music, Henry's annoyance grew. iPods were no fun.

Marco? Was in a happy place. "Where can we get our own?"

Anders didn't spend too much time looking at the mobile phone. He'd been meaning to get himself one for a whie anyway, so he'd been researching various models.

He did mess around with the ringtones, though, so it played "Copacabana."

Again, nothing Anders wasn't unfamiliar with, Colonial technology being so similar to Earth technology in so many uncanny ways. He put a Boston Red Sox wallpaper on the computer's desktop and passed it on to the next student.
