Revolutions: Week 1 Period 5

Aly perched on top of her desk, watching her students enter the classroom with a bit of a smile. She nodded to those she knew before and smiled at the ones who looked like they were probably brand new. Once everyone was seated, she stood up and leaned against the desk.

"Good afternoon. Some of you know me already, but for those of you who don't, I'm Alianne of Pirate's Swoop. You all can call me Aly, but if you're uncomfortable with that, duani is also acceptable." She grinned. "First person to call me Miss Aly, I get to demonstrate on.  This class is 'So You Say You Want a Revolution.'  If you're not interested in revolutions or you thought you were taking Home Ec - that was first period.  You missed it."

"During the term, we're going to talk about why formenting revolution can be a good thing.  We're going to discuss what revolutions can be used for, how they can be put together, and why a failed revolution can be just as effective."  She gazed at all of them with a slight smile.  "And yes, I still hate theory so practicalities will be covered.  Demolitions, weaponry, organisation, magic - or not, tactics."  She grinned.  "And my favourite, intelligence."

"Seven years ago, I helped organise a rebellion that put my Queen in power and have served as her Spymaster ever since.  Almost everything I'm going to be teaching you is what I learned during the rebellion and in the years since.  And if I didn't learn it there, it's something that was useful to me at the time."  She paused thoughtfully, stroking her black beaded necklace.  "In spying, your brain is almost everything - half of spying is half mental as I've said before.  But a single person can't put together an effective revolution.  But a single person can destroy one.  And a failed rebellion feeds only the ravens and Stormwings.  It's a dangerous game.  And one you have to commit to fully if you're going to succeed."

"So today, I'd like to get to know those of you I don't know already, and I'd like to hear what you think about revolutions and rebellions.  When are they appropriate, what would it take to rebel against the current power structure of your home country, society, or even this school."  She smiled mischievously.  "Zuko and Bridge are your TAs for this class.  They'll help me with many of the aspects so if you have any questions and I'm not around, feel free to ask them."

"Better at spotting vampires," Walter answered with a smirk. "I was always good at picking pockets."

"Well if you wind up sick, I promise I'll bring you tea and toast," Isabel grinned.

Having the sense that he was being watch, Zuko looked around the room and noticed the guy who was on top of his list of traitors glower at him. Not about to be outdone, he glowered more fiercely.

"It's a dumb thing to believe in," Zuko argued.

Bel was more interested in what alien blood could do for his health, but he didn't say that out loud, of course. "Thanks," he said, grinning. "So how have classes been treating you so far?"

"My experience might be smaller-scale than what you're talking about," Tyler admitted. "But with guerrilla work, and if you convert enough people before you start taking action, you can do a lot without many losses. But I don't know if you can prevent them all."

"Household elements," Tyler said vaguely. "You can do a lot with acids and bases and patience. Orange juice can turn into napalm."

"I really don't know what my alternate dimension selves are like," Marie admitted. "But I thought the class sounded interesting."

She very carefully didn't mention her minor participation in blowing up a national monument.

"I wish I knew the answers," Isabel admitted. "Then this would actually be more then wishful guessing on my part. Unfortunately we're working off the tiniest clues and bits of information we've managed to come up with in the last two years." And of course the question was, did Max really want his throne back? Or where they just responding to a plea for help from a mother they didn't remember.

While 'Bitch please' was not in 6's vocabulary, 'Bring it' certainly was. Nobody outscowled him. Nobody. He brought it hardcore facial expression style. He looked disdainful of the very air Zuko occupied.

"This is my first one. So I suppose it's going well so far," she said oddly distracted by a random thought of a bubble bath. "An interesting teacher, a class with friends. This should be fun."

Isabel waved cheerfully at 6.

"What was enough to push you to revolution?" He was curious as to what an avowed monarchist would see to be sufficient reason to not just discuss it in theory, but do it.

Zuko frowned. "There's a lot of them."

"I missed my class yesterday because the school didn't tell me what my schedule was," Bel said. "So this is technically my first class, too. It should be interesting."

Scowling got pretty boring fast. Zuko simply sneered at 6. Okay, so it wasn't simply sneering as there was the whole part where there was smoke involved.

"What else do you have?" Isabel asked. "Hopefully we'll have something else together. It's fun to have someone to talk to when it gets boring. I've got Hunting tomorrow, Religions on Thursday and then Villians and Survival Tactics on Friday."

"It doesn't," he protested, defensively.
