World Religions, 12/20 Final class

Jesse was wearing a jaunty Santa cap, sitting behind his desk nursing a mug of coffee as though he'd rather be having hair of the dog.

On each desk, face down, was a test booklet, on the whiteboard an admonition not to turn them over until told to do so.

"Mornin'. Test day. Grab your pencils, say your prayers, and give me your best. Get to it."

He sat back and lazily watched the students taking their test and waited for everyone to finish.

"One more chance. Tell me one thing you've learned in this class. Don't kiss my ass with it. If you want to tell me that Nadia over there is a megalomaniac who wants to use religion to control people," he winked at Nadia, "that'll do. Or that I'm a shitty teacher and you never want to learn another thing about religion again. I can take it."

His expression softened, and it was possible to see where, hiding behind the smartass, might be a man with a sentimental streak as wide as the Rio Grande. "You're some good kids. Be good men and women. Jesse Custer's sole commandment: 'don't be an asshole.'"

One last movie day. Jesse has a stack of movies and appears ready to enjoy a John Wayne marathon while grading the final exams.

Join him for popcorn and soda and the best western actor ever. At least in Jesse's opinion.

Nadia "the megalomaniac" Santos. Hey, she put up some good discussion. Give the girl an A-

V. Cally.

Solid B, no plus, no minus.

Cally gets a solid B here, as well. And did, verily, freak out a bit.

Cally nodded. "Nadia is a megalomaniac that wants to use religion to control people, definitely," she said with a giggle.

Yasutora "Chad" Sado. His pursuits of both love and war in religion should earn him an A-.

Kaylee Frye

B+

Chad was finding it difficult not to digress into ritualistic orgies, but he works out a nice A- for himself. All the Eastern crap still gives him some trouble.

Kaylee took the test and likely got a solid B.

"I learned that, yeah, Nadia's a megalomaniac, I used to be a pretty pretty princess..." pause "of the pony variety, and that you should always have a supply of war rubber bands."

Chad had focused on all the important things he'd gotten from the class.

"...you used to be a pretty, pretty princess?"

As it turns out, Religion was a subject that interested Nadia enough that she even studied. Solid A on this one.

"Of the pretty pony variety," Chad nodded. " At least that's what Blair told me."

Nadia pumped her fists in a silent victory cheer.

And, no, she's not denying any megalomaniacal tendencies.

"I've learned that people freak out when you point out that things like religion can be used to manipulate and hold power over people, that having long hair and wearing it in a ponytail can be a strategic fashion option, and that Cally isn't zen."

"Oh," Cally said, keeping her own opinions of Blair's craziness to herself.

"...do we even have a student named Zen?" Cally asked.

". . . and my point is proved. But she does know the sound of one hand clapping."

Zero Hopeless-Savage

Who has the curse of being a good student. Give her a B+.

((And let's see if I can get this comment in the right place...))

Cally demonstrated by clapping with one hand.

That curse of being a good student struck again, and Zero got a solid A. Apparently she studied a lot while recovering from the death flu over the weekend.

"Well, yes, Nadia, megalomaniac, but I thought we knew that already," Zero said with an impish grin. "Also, apparently God is real whether I believe in him or not."

Matilda Wormwood. Sure she knew all this already, so she might have seemed disinterested at times, go was A- or B+?

Matilda likes tests, she's grinning. That would be an A. Matilda's brain is like a computer.

". . . and, again, point proved."

"We make a good team," Cally said.

William Kessler. Not the bes student ever, but certainly no slouch. B.

Billy thought about each question, and guessed on the ones he couldn't remember. He stayed very calm, but did have to rest his injured eye after a while. B

"I learned I'm a walking example of yin and yang."

"What are you an example of when you're sitting down?" Cally teased.

*snrk*

"That's next semester."

"So says Saint Anselm anyways..."

Conner McKnight, solid C+ material if there ever was any.

Conner didn't freak out. He'd gotten most of his freaking out done last week.

There was, however, a good bit of attempted hair-tearing-out, and when the metaphorical abused hair strands were cleared away, he might've wrangled a B-. Barely.

Stark. B.

Very little freaking out (especially for him) and some studying over the weekend with Sheila the eggbaby led to Stark to end up with a B. Maybe a B+.

Janet Fraiser. A little too cranky and sullen, but does some decent work. B.

Janet displays a solid, if cyncial, knowledge of the subject.
