Archaeology Club - 4pm, Selkie Cove

Evie was jumping up and down, standing in front of the entrance to one of the sea caves, as much from excitement as a need to keep warm. She had her map, electric torch, mackintosh, several mining hats with lights on them, chalk, rope, and her notebook.

Time to find the Albatross!

"Should we split up, or stay together?" she asked. "I rather think we should stay together, but the cave does fork into two paths just beyond the entrance."

Evie Carnahan

Before you head in.

The sea caves are rock and sand, carved out by tides and time. Just inside the entrance, the cave forks toward the cove, and away from it, although you can still see people in the other tunnel on occasion, with the openings and holes that occur between tunnels as they head upward.

High tide is at 7pm. So there's only an hour and a half to find something before it's time to head back.

Dr. Jackson and Dr. Covington will probably be here on time....

At some point, we'll find the wreck (http://www.abc.net.au/programsales/image/Shipwreck.jpg) and then mark where it is on the map.

Blair Sandburg

Blair donned a mining hat and looked around. "We're not a big group, so maybe we should stick together."

Evie looked thoughtful, then nodded cheerfully. "That probably is best. So. Toward the cove, or away from it, do you think?" She spread out her topographic map, which showed different elevations and areas. "The ship was supposed to be a 30-footer, driven in by the hurricaine. Either one of those tunnels is large enough for it, but I don't think it can be *too* far in. Do you?"

Blair knowledge about ships rivaled his map skills. He looked at the map for a long minute and then nodded, pointing up. "I'm thinking left."

"Left!" Evie bounced and put on a miner's cat, which immediately tilted forward to cover her eyes. "All in favor, say aye!" She grabbed her gear, humming happily. "Do you have the compass, Blair?"

Blair held up the compass and shook it. "Yup. I'm totally read to head north...or is that...wait."

He turned in a circle, holding the compass carefully. "Dude, what the heck? Evie, I think it's broken."

"Broken? Oh, no, it can't be..." Evie looked over his arm, tilting her head. "It shouldn't be spinning like that!"

"It's probably just me." Blair held the compass out to her. "It's like it knows I can't navigate my way out of a paper bag."

Evie took it, and after a minute of holding it steady, it finally decided the north was the same direction as left, and she breathed sigh of relief. "Good lord. I was afraid we were on a deposit of some type of iron or bizarre Fandom rock, and we'd never find our way in, much less out." She checked her watch. "We've got an hour and a half. Surely we can find one shipwreck in here in that time."

"Or die trying!" Blair cheered happily. "Only not literally because that would suck."

"Then let's go!" Evie turned to the cave entrance, adjusted her hat, and pointed. "Onward!"

Blair bounced after her, shining the light on his helmet over the walls. "Wouldn't it be cool if we found a sea monster inside these caves?"

"Ooooooo, yes!" Then Evie thought about it a moment. "One that doesn't eat people, yes?"

"No eating people ones. Maybe one that guards shipwrecks." Blair rubbed his hand along the cave wall. "Two birds with one stone and all."

"That would be perfect," Evie agreed, hopping along over rocks and driftwood. "But if it's the other kind, we run away, right?"

Yasutora Sado

Lame. Chad forgot a cool hat. But he remembered to come today, yay.

He followed and waited for any particular strong-person task to arise.

I just wanna apologize for always pinging in ultra-late for this club. it's ending up conflicting with my work schedual more than I thought. *sniff*

"Quickly." Blair nodded. "And in the opposite direction."

"That's all right, then." Evie adjusted her hat, and the light played crazily across the cavern. Water dripped down the walls, drip drip drip DRIP drip, and the floor gave under their feet, just a little; still sand, not stone. She stopped at one overhanging stalactite and made a mark on it with chalk. "It's fluorescent, isn't that clever?"

"Do you think you could hold the rope?" Evie asked, struggling with it a bit. "Just in case we need to go down into a hole, or something?"

*pats* no worries, dude. We're still going.

Chad nodded, and quickly relieved her of the rope. Rope holding, and eventually possibly anchoring and pulling was definately something he could do.

Evie offered him a flashlight, since there wasn't another miner's hat for him. "Careful where you step! And thanks for coming along."
