Self Defense Club

A few mats have been laid out in the gym, and pizza and lemonade stood on a table off to the side. Once everyone had come in, Alanna clapped her hands together a few times to get people's attention.

"Welcome to Self Defense people! I'm Alanna, this is Faithful, and this is Mr. Winchester, our sponsor. Rule number one? If one of us tells you to stop/freeze/do something, you do it. My goal is to have zero injuries this semester. Rule two: you hurt someone on purpose and you're going to wish you never met me." Alanna smiled sweetly. "This week we are just going to do the introducing and mingling thing, but next week? Wear comftorable clothes."

John watched and listened to the student's responses, sipping at a cup of coffee as he listened.

"Conner McKnight," said the boy who for once was not tagging on the 'with an E-R' part. "I'm a senior -- again -- and I'm here because I want to stay in practice, and get some structure in my routine. I'd like to get an idea of a few different styles, since I never had any formal training, just a year of . . . hands-on experience. What I use is mostly a mixed-up martial arts style with, um, soccer moves thrown in. As for an interesting factoid, I've tried out twice for professional soccer teams, but didn't finish the tryout because more important stuff came up."

"William Kessler, Junior, I'm here to keep in practice with what I already know, learn any kind of hand to hand fighting someone can teach me, I've trained in martial arts for several years. And I've got an artificial leg."

"Teddy Altman, sophomore," Teddy said with a small wave. "I'm here because I want to learn a fighting style, any fighting style really. Um, I have some experience, but a lot of what I know comes from Tae-Bo infomercials and I don't think that's really gonna cut it. Oh, and I'm a shape-shifter."

"Pip Bernadette, sohpemore. I'm here to keep my skills sharp and to learn from fighting other people. I've had millitary-style training as well as training in couple of other martial arts. I've had quite a bit of practical experience as well. Currently, I have in my room an evil psychotic cat, a child-like tank, and a mirror that apparently doubles as a gateway to another world."

"Layla Williams," she said. "I'm a sophomore, and I'm here because I don't know a whole lot about self defense, and that doesn't seem like a very good idea - not just because the stories I've heard about things here are kind of scary, but because things can get a little dangerous where I'm from too, and I know that my pacifist ways won't always keep me out of trouble. So, I'm ready to learn just about anything. I don't have much in the way of past experience, and as for an interesting factoid, my house contains two dogs, three cats, five birds, a hamster, three ferrets, and I'm not sure how many guinea pigs, because one of them just gave birth. My mom's kind of fond of animals."

Teddy could not resist the siren song of free food and grabbed a slice of pizza.

"I'm Alphonse Elric," he began. "Sophomore, and I'm here because I thought I may as well put what I know to good use. I started sparing when I was about eight, so I've got some years experience behind me. And, um..." he paused, thinking. Well, if others were gonna list what they were or what they did... "I study and practice alchemy in my spare time." There. He believed that was as interesting as it got for him.

"Soccer moves?" Alanna asked with a grin.

"Um...does it get in the way?"

"What's an infomercial?" Alanna asked.

"...How did you fit a tank in your room?"

"Wow, that's, um, a lot of animals. Do they fight?"

"Alchemy?" Alanna wondered if Fandom would ever leave her without questions.

"Um, it's a science," Alphonse answered. "It basically deals with the deconstruction and reconstruction of things."

"Things like buildings?"

"It's my roommate Togusa's," Pip said. "And it's more of a mini-tank. About the size of a cat."

"I don't normally deal with large-scale things like that, but yes, pretty much any object is able to be altered."

"It's like a commercial that lasts for half an hour," Teddy replied. "They're usually on reeeeally late at night or reeeeally early in the morning."

"...Do they fight? Um, your cat and the mini-tank?"

"So you tried to learn Tae-Bo from it?" Alanna: Permanently confused.
