Are you all done? This is basically free time to finish up the things you did not get to finish.” She looks around and smiles. “It was a pleasure having you guys in the class. Sign up next term, we will be making Jewelry.” She grins, clearly excited by the prospect.

comments

Today we see what you have made over the past week, and we learn to tune it to the correct time. If you see that your clock is not telling time properly, you may need to tighten these springs, and possibly change out these two gears here” She was pointing to a diagram drawn on a dry-erase board that has mysteriously appeared in the workshop.

[ooc: I have an interview today, so horribly sorry for the lameoid post]

comments

I have printed out for you a handout with images of how this one gentleman built his clock, step-by-step. You do not need to cut your own gears and wheels, but you do need to assemble them as pictured here.”

She took a breath and looked at her two students. “This may take you more then just today’s workshop. You are welcome to come in any day the shop is open to continue working on them.”

comments

Make sure to leave enough room inside for the mechanism.”

She placed several sets of tools on the table as well as some metals and woods.

“These should be all the raw materials you need. Don’t get hurt.”

[ooc: I am sick sorry for short post]

comments

Clockwork workshop, lesson 3

Posted by: heterodine.livejournal.com

“Alright guys. Now that you have figured out what your clocks will look like, please show me what you have.”

She gestured to some blueprints she had pinned to the wall. They were for a very simple coo-coo clock.

“That is what I will be making.” She smiled. “Now, before we begin building the internal mechanism, we need to understand exactly what all the inner bits do.”

She pulled out one by one and demonstrated the functionality of gears, clockwork, and springs.

“You can play with these for today, but I want you to really really understand what they do. For next week, I want you to find 3 objects on this island that use any or all of these mechanisms in their workings. Don’t bring me a clock though, that is cheating.”

comments

Clockwork workshop, Monday morning

Posted by: heterodine.livejournal.com

Agatha waited for her two students to file in. The store was closed, and on the table in front of her were more clock parts as well as some sketches and images, not to mention photos.

"Alright guys. Today, you get to design what your clock will look like. Since there are two of you i thought that even though you should end up with a clock each, you should work together to design them. TAke a look at these images here. A clock can be something as simple as a circle of numbers with a small mechanism behind it, or it can be something as elaborate as the famous peacock clock in St. Petersburg. That one used to spit a pearl out on the hour every hour. A clock can also be anything in between."

She looked at the two boys. "Spend your time today figuring out what your clock housing will look like. That will dictate the size and constraints of your mechanism."

comments

Clockwork workshop #1, Morning

Posted by: heterodine.livejournal.com

There were *handwaved* announcements posted, announcing that the Workshop would be in the back of Sparky Repairs.

Agatha looked over the students she had. Ok, there were only two of them, but her smile was still a bit nervous.

“Hey guys. As you may or may not know, my name is Agatha Clay.” She smiled again. “You may call me Agatha though. Please write your names down on the attached attendance sheet, so I know who you guys are. Also, if you could tell me a bit about what sort of mechanical knowledge you already have, that would be cool.”

"Today we are going to spend the next few hours talking about what a Clock is. Please take a look at your handout and at this picture of a Peacock Clock. It is on display at the Hermitage in the Russian Federation.

To better understand a thing, you have to take the thing apart. In front of you is a variety of mechanical clocks. Take them apart, see what's inside.”

Agatha smiled again and handed them each a handout, an image and a box of clocks. Some were old, some were new and some were clearly made by Agatha herself.

comments
