The students were ~~handwavily~~ notified to meet at the beach for today's class, and were met there by Artie, standing proud and posed in his red and blue striped vintage swimsuit in front of the water.

"Welcome, my little vikings! Today is our last class." He gave an exaggeratedly despondent look at that -- when Artie looked emo, he looked emo. "I would like to teach you all an old tradition I learned from a dear old friend, a farewell to summer, a protest of the return of drudgey, bescabbed, not-summer existence. Today we beat up the ocean!"

And he let out a warrior's bellow and ran headlong, knees high into the surf, where he proceeded to start punching and kicking at waves.

"Take that, foul disturber! I'll bet you ride a Schwinn!" A wave smacked him in the face. "Oh ho, in a fiesty mood today! We'll show you, Schwinn rider!

"Vikings! Attack!"

Artie was posed in the clearing when it came time for class, apparently none the worse for wear from the adventures of the weekend.

Honestly, it was possible he'd managed not to even notice what had happened this weekend. It was also possible he'd spent his time trying to befriend a giant cockroach.

He was in fine form today, bouncing around even more manically than before. "Today!" he crowed, "we will have a treasure hunt! Go forth, vikings, and explore this wonderful island in search of amazing things! I have a list!"

He whipped out a giant roll of parchment from -- well, somewhere. "Bring as many items on this list back as you can, and you might win!"

Was there a prize for winning? Perhaps a ride in Artie's land canoe. Perhaps simply the joy of knowing you totally beat your classmates at finding the random crap on Artie's list.

Who knew?

"Welcome back, students!" Artie was in fine form today, bounding around the gathered students in a circle, knees way up, a marching band hat on his head, a large piece of piece of pipe clenched in his hands. There was a pile of instruments -- kazoos, slide whistles, toy accordions, ukuleles, and more -- on a table at the edge of the clearing. "Today we will play. . . ." He froze, eyes wide, balanced precariously on the toes of one foot. "Freeze dance!"

He then proceeded to not explain just what this whole 'freeze dance' thing was. Instead he waved the students to the instruments on the table and flipped the on switch of his Krebstar 2000 personal radio, which immediately started blasting beachy funk music. And he proceeded to dance.

The students could make of that what they would.

Artie was in very high spirits today, skipping back and forth between two large plastic trashcans filled to the brim with various colorful objects.

"Greetings, students! Today we have the pleasure of playing . . ." He paused, possibly for effect, possibly because he had to bounce in place for a long moment and strike as many awkward muscle poses as possible. "DODGEBALL!"

"Two teams!" He declared, standing exaggeratedly straight, now, shoulders back far enough that he was starting to arch backwards, then started to march back and forth before the students. "One will be over there!" He pointed to one side of the clearing. "One will be over here," and then to the other side of the clearing. The two trashcans marked out a line between the two. "Ammo!" He patted one of the trashcans. "Throw them at each other. Dodge them. If you get hit, you're out! Until you're back in again."

Artie's games of dodgeball tended to be sort of never ending.

"Today's competition shall be between. . . ." That was totally a pause for dramatic effect. Or possibly quick thinking. "Nighthawks! Versus!" And there he went bouncing and posing again, and were there a camera, it might have zoomed right on in on his face as he finished: "CANTALOUPE!"

"And don't forget to have fun!"

Artie was once again waiting for all the students outdoors, this time surrounded by a wide array of colorful flag-like material.

"Welcome back, my little Dada vikings! I hope you all have had a pipe week and are all rested up, because today we get active!" He bounced around in place for a moment, then struck a pose, arms out, holding bright orange signal flags. "Today we play Capture the Flag!" He threw the flags in the air and ran in a circle.

"For those who might not know, Capture the Flag is a game in which you have a flag! And so does everyone else! And you must get the other person's flag, which may be hidden in flags or possibly on their head, in order to win! And don't let them get yours!"

Well, that was a vast simplification of the rules.

"Be aware, students! Your flag could be anywhere, and perhaps might be only vaguely or not at all flag like! I have several samples here available to you. You can team up against your fellow students! Or you can try to be a lone wolf puppy! But the most important thing is to have fun!"

Artie was seated on thin air at a folding card table when the students arrived. Once they all were gathered, he gestured for them to sit down at any of the tables set up (which thankfully, had plenty of chairs and chair-like objects to choose from).

"Welcome back, my little viikings! It is another pipe day for some fun and games!"

Each table held a fairly impressive pile of cards. Artie picked up a handful from his. "Today, we will play poker! But not just any poker, oh no. Any hand can win, as long as you can tell us why. Remember to use your brains! Do you have a four of diamonds? Well, maybe those diamonds are the source of the King's secret weakness! It's up to you!

"Homework!" Artie adopted a very goofy looking stern look, then brightened back up. "Pick one day this week. You will spend that day being silly, in everything you do. Perhaps spend the whole day speaking through a sock puppet. Perhaps challenge a cabbage to a foot race. Make people ask you what you are doing! Make them think you are weird. Don't tell them; just let them wonder! Next week, you will tell us about your day of silliness!"

Artie seemed rather glad to be back out in the field in the preserve for class, today. He was bouncing cheerfully about the clearing as he waited for his fresh batch of students to arrive. Would they be vikings? Would they be pirates? Would they possibly even be . . . ninjas?

Would Artie call them all vikings anyway? Well, yes.

Artie had himself a Krebstar 2000* personal portable radio, today, a table with a slushie machine and some boxes of cookies on it, and a lot of things that may or may not be usable as musical instruments.

"Last class!" he said, giving an exaggerated sniff. "That means it's time . . ." He struck an artful pose. "To party!" He hopped over to the table, giving a very Vanna-esque gesture of demonstration. "We have tasty snacks like fig newlies!* Delicious beverages like the Grape Judas!* And of course, music!" He turned on the personal radio, which blasted something bouncy and distinctively 1990s. "Lets! Get! Funky!"

* Yeah, I'm totally name dropping from the series, now. You can probably guess what these various things are.

Artie was in the clearing when class was scheduled to begin this time, thankfully. He was in fine form today, too, bouncing around even more manically than before. "Today!" he crowed, "we play the classic game of freeze tag!" He beamed at the students, apparently not the least bit bothered by the fact that he hadn't added anything even remotely odd to the equation, just yet. "That means if someone who is it tags you, you have to freeze until tagged by someone who is not it. No moving! If you move while frozen, your limbs might break off!"

Really, and people let this guy around children.

"You!" He pointed to one of the students. "You're it! And you! And you and you and you. The rest of you are not it. Go forth, vikings! And pirates! Tag!"

Artie wasn't at the meeting place on the preserve today, the way he usually was. Instead, there was a chalkboard leaning against a tree, including a map of the island and a note from Artie himself.

GREETINGS CAMPERS! said the note. TODAY WE PLAY HIDE AND SEEK! ONLY INSTEAD OF ONE PERSON BEING 'IT', YOU ARE ALL 'IT'! I HAVE HIDDEN SOMEWHERE! TRY TO FIND ME, AND WHEN YOU DO, YOU WILL HIDE TOO! DON'T BE THE LAST ONE TO FIND US ALL!

This was followed by an elaborate illustration of a grinning duck.

It was best not to ask.

Students had ~~handwavily~~ gotten notice to meet up in the Preserve behind the school for class today. When they arrived, they'd find Artie balanced seemingly precariously on a trampoline, eyes on his watch, counting down the seconds until class was due to start.

Artie was nothing but punctual when it came to being ridiculous.

When the appointed time arrived, Artie bounced down off the trampoline with a cheerful "Bazoom!" and posed triumphantly in front of the students!

Artie is looking just a touch emo. This could be because it's the last day of the workshop, or it could be because Mortimer still doesn't have his memory back. Either way.

Artie was posed cheerfully by the campfire, surrounded by an array of various colorful flag type things and not so flag type things and completely not-resembling-flag type things.

He was entirely back to normal. And if asked, he would deny ever trying to sell his class siding.

"Greetings, campers! I hope all of you have some good ideas for your Dada games, as they will soon be due! For today, we will play Dada Capture the Flag!" He gestured to the things at his feet. "I have many flag choices for you all today. Each of you will have a flag to protect! You will try to get each other's flags! How is up to you. But bonus points if it involves a staring contest

"Go forth my vikings, and have fun!"

Applied Dadaism: fun and games (Friday morning, main campfire)

The main campfire area had been set up with picnic tables arranged in rows. Each picnic table had a pile of brochures, a pile of siding samples, and a tool box (filled with actual tools).

In front of the picnic tables stood a large easel with the words "Krebman dual-coated Aluminum Siding and YOU" on it in bright, friendly letters. Artie waited casually, not in the least bit posed, next to this. He was wearing his grey suit and turtleneck, and holding his briefcase. As the students gathered, he gestured for them to have a seat at one of the tables.

"Good morning, campers. TGIF, eh? Thank God it's Friday. Today I have a very special workshop for your delight, entertainment, and enlightenment. Now, who here knows what aluminum siding is?" Artie barreled on without giving the campers a chance to respond. "That's right, it's only the best siding known to mankind. It became widely popular just after World War II, when the surplus aluminum production was put to excellent and attractive use for modern housing. . . ."

He continued to lecture the group for most of the class on the wonderous nature of siding, how it was far superior to wood, and could not be matched by the so called "vinyl" siding of today. He harped especially on its dent-and-dirt resistant nature, and the lack of any need to paint it.

"But don't take my word for it, campers. In front of each of you is a piece of this amazing siding, as well as some common household tools. Go ahead, try it out. See if you can damage it. I warn you, it won't be easy. You also each have a copy of my card and the brochure. This week, I'd like you all to be my helpers. Fandom has a distinct lack of quality siding, something which we will endeavor to correct. Go forth this week, campers, and sell! (I will, of course, be collecting any money made off of sales as they will be made under my name.)"

[ooc: OCD is ~~a'comin~~ up. Feel free to ask Artie questions or act in a Dadaish nature, though that may possibly earn you detention, this week. I'm posting this Thursday night as I'll be AFK for most of Friday morning with an interview. SP is welcome.]

Artie awaited his campers in the main campfire area as usual.

Well, almost as usual. Today he was wearing a football helmet and seemed to have stuck a playground ball up his shirt.

It’s best not to ask, really.

“Welcome, campers! I hope all of you had a very pipe week. I know I have. The weather seems to have become Dada in our honor! And tasty! I’m sure you all have your own Dada stories to tell today, as well!”

Once the reporting on their days of Dada was done, Artie pulled the ball from beneath his shirt and bounced it on his head a few times. “Some of you know that I ran detention this weekend. We had a very successful game of dodgeball, there. So successful that I have decided that today, we are going to play our own game! Dada dodgeball!”

The field was nicely clear of kittens, butterflies, and pudding. There are six five-gallon buckets and twine, creating a rectangular playing field divided down the middle.

“These are your rules!” Artie held up a piece of paper with the words “rules for dodgeball” written on it in bright, friendly letters. Then he ripped it apart. “Have fun!”

"Welcome back, campers! I hope you all have had a pipe weekend! I know I have! Today we are going to continue with our Dada games. I hope all of you have been thinking of some rules for your own games that you will present at the end of the session!"

He bounded to his feet. "But first! Introduce yourselves again! Only this time, use a Dada name. For example, today I will be Squeeeeeeebadadoopboing!"

Once the introductions were done with, Artie laid out some cards on the tables. "Today, we will play poker! But not just any poker, oh no, Dada poker. Dada poker is like Dada rock, paper, scissors. Any hand can win, as long as you can tell us why. Be creative! If you have three clubs, maybe your three clubs can bludgeon your opponents three kings! It's up to you.

"For next time, I have an assignment for you. Pick one day this week. You will spend that day being Dada, in everything you do. Perhaps spend the whole day saying nothing but the word 'dreeble'. Perhaps try to wrestle a slab of bacon. Make people ask you what you are doing! Make them think you are weird. Don't tell them; just let them wonder! Next week, you will tell us about your Dada day!"

Applied Dadaism: Fun and Games was held around the main campfire on Friday morning.

Artie stood poised on a trampoline, completely motionless until it was time to get the workshop started. "Greetings, campers! I hope you are having a very pipe time at camp so far! Welcome to Applied Dadaism! I am Artie! The strongest man . . . in the world and I will be your instructor for these next weeks."

To review, in class today I would like you to discuss one thing you have learned in this class so far, and how it either surprised you, or changed your mind in regards to a certain topic. If that is not the case in any aspect, why not?

Death and Dying

Discussion: Your homework was to Choose a death by suicide from Shakespeare's work, and share a short reaction to it. Please do so.

Your midterm exam will be on Wednesday! It will be an in-class essay, in a similar vein to the homework you are turning in. Using what you have learned in class, and moving on to our accidental death chapter, please analyze A Darwin Award Winner or Honourable Mention. You may bring in notes on one 3x5 index card.
