BWI Airport, Portalocity Lounge, Saturday Morning

So everyone else had, like, dramatic backstories and reasons to show up here and stuff. Which was fine, you know, if you were emotionally in the zone enough to go to those kinda lengths. Denise had just been, you know, chilling with her dad last night watching some hockey guys really pound in on each other - no, seriously, really get into it. One of them broke a rib or something, which was kinda cool.

Then she'd been dropped off at the airport, gotten a ticket stuffed into her hands, and that was that. No reason to get all dramatic and touchy-feely about it.

And now it was Saturday morning and she was on the airport. Sitting around. Chugging water and listening to her discman while watching the kids down the hall, trying to figure out how they were gonna croak. Sure, there was some kind of shuttle supposed to show up, but it wasn't there yet. A girl had to keep herself busy.

She figured the dweebs starting to mill around the terminal were probably classmates or something. Lame.

[[ wait for the ocd up! ]]

If there was one thing that Peter Bishop was not entirely sure how he got talked into, it was summer camp. He didn't want to be in school at all, let alone some sad and pathetic summer version.

He'd just take off when he turned eighteen in the fall. That was the agreement, that was the plan.

So he stood there in the lounge, next to his suitcases, completely unaware of what he'd really gotten himself into. But he was keeping a careful watch on the other people around. After all, he needed to know if there were any potential partners in crime.

Suddenly Peter was giving the colorful mess that was Delirium a piggy ride. "Why so serious?" There was something about that line she liked a lot.

"Whoa," Peter said, barely managing to keep his balance. As it was, he had to steady himself on a nearby bench to prevent really unfortunate toppling over.

"Do I know you?"

"Nnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnno?" Did he? Did he now? Del moved away, noticing they were about to fall if she kept bothering, and sat next to him. "But you looked lonely, so, um, then...company?" Company was good.

"Well, can't say I've ever had girls literally throwing themselves at me before," he remarked, somewhat amused. "Peter Bishop. You waiting in line for the abattoir too?"

He had a strange sense of humor.

"But you are cuuuuuute. "

That joke made her laugh. "Yes! Can't wait to meet, my sister. Again. I think. Yes."

Peter instantly assumed that the girl was high. This wasn't a bad thing, in his book, but it was just the easiest explanation. "So you have family at the school?"

He extended a hand. "Peter Bishop."

Yeah. High. That was...accurate. "My sister, Didi. But she doesn't know, um, me coming here. Not. Right. Maybe, I hope she isn't mad."

Shaking his hand, Del realized they were telling their names. Duh.

"Delirium of the Endless."

"Wow," Peter said, just assuming her parents were hippies. "Guess your parents must really like the school."

He was also starting to think it might be a dumping ground school. Where kids their parents don't want to deal with send them. He could work that to his advantage.

And he didn't know why, but he felt just a little... loose around this girl. He was having trouble being his normal, deadpan self.

"No parents; we Endless just, are. Sort of. Most of the time. Kind of, um, forever."

He looked like a nice person, with an average amount of craziness....nah, there was something else there, Del knew.

Still high, Peter reasoned, and he just decided to humor the cute tripping-out girl.

"Forever is a long time," he said, only with a tiny bit of mocking. "Must be hell to keep yourself from getting bored."

"A looooooooooooooong time. But, um, Endless have things to do, or, um, games to play." She liked the games, but Dream was usually pissy all the time when they played. And he was scary.

"There is, um something, al the time. To do."

"A girl of simple tastes," Peter said. "Well, if you ever get a card game going, count me in."

"Do you know anything at all about this school?" Christian asked the quiet young man, for no better reason than a vague urge to be sociable.

"I know it's supposedly for special students," Peter said. "Whether that means gifted or 'gifted'," he airquoted, "I'm not sure yet."

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] boho-to-be.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Christian chuckled. "They must tailor their sales pitches," he said. "My father is convinced it's exactly the place to get me to stop talking about Bohemian revolutions and go work in a dull office. I didn't know I was meant to be gifted."

"If this place is supposed to make me want to be a good little worker bee, I think I'm definitely in the wrong place," Peter said. He held out a hand. "Peter Bishop, future high school drop-out. Yourself?"

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] boho-to-be.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
"Christian," Christian answered, shaking the hand. "I'm going to be a poet. My father disagrees, so ... here I am."

He considered what Peter had said, and added, "Why are you starting at this school if you already know you want to leave?"

"My mother believes that the five months I have here before I'm considered of competent adult age will make me change my mind," Peter said.

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] boho-to-be.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 01:50 am (UTC)(link)
"Ah," Christian said. "Just like mine is convinced they'll make a worker bee out of me. But does that mean this is your last year, too? I'm never certain how American grades match with ours."

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] theotherpeter.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 01:58 am (UTC)(link)
"It does," Peter said. "And I'll admit, it's nice hearing that there's another guy in the same sort of boat. Maybe we can both prove our respective parents wrong."

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] boho-to-be.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 02:08 am (UTC)(link)
"Or at least fail spectacularly, if we have to fail," Christian nodded. "It was good to meet you. I'll watch for you on campus."

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] theotherpeter.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
"I'll keep an eye out," Peter said. "You at least seem more sane than the girl I met."

[identity profile] boho-to-be.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
"Did you talk to the one who said the largest city on the planet was called Midgar?" Christian asked.

Sorry, Rosalind.

Re: Waiting for the Shuttle

[identity profile] theotherpeter.livejournal.com 2010-05-08 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
"Delerium didn't mention anything about a Midgar," Peter said. "But she invited herself to a surprise piggyback ride and proceeded to tell me she was forever. A little bit of a toker, if you ask me."
