Shop Class; Thursday, Second Period [02/04].

"Morning, everyone," Amaya greeted the students with usual nod and a look that said she was ready, as always to get to work, and they hoped they were, too! "We're going to be taking a brief break from the metal work this week and delving into some woodwork again, because versatility's always good, and we really haven't had a chance to use these nice saws nearly as much yet this semester, so let's fix that this week and try our hands at a codex type of puzzle box. We'll be working with wood and a lot of defined parts and pieces, so that means using the scroll saw, but if the power saws still make you a bit squeamish, I've precut some pieces and we can go from there, especially since the work on this project can be a little fussy without adding an extra level of attention for those of you still in the novice area.

Puzzle Box! )

"Again, I've got the instructions written out to follow along with, but if there's any questions, I'll be right here. Let's get to work!"

Advanced Team Building, Thursday, February 4th - First period

Today the class was in the Danger Shop rather than outside freezing, so that was a plus. The negative was possibly the huge obstacle course that had been set up.

"So, we've gone over a lot of the basics of survival in the wilderness," Tony said. "So now it's putting some of those skills to the test as a team!"

Were you developing a twitch every time they said "as a team" yet? Because it would come!

"We have some rope climbing, some swimming, some trying-not-to-fall-in-mud, and a trust fall," Steve said, beaming. "I did this last week with my team up in New York."

There had been so much whining about the mud part.

Tony gave him a pat on the shoulder for that. Because, yes, all the mud. "And, at the end, there will be a puzzle to solve," he added. "But, if you can finish this, you get the reward of some cookies--from a bakery--and time spent with Patriot."

A corgi in a Captain America sweater lost his goddamn mind at the mention of his name, butt wiggling happily at the teachers' feet.

Guiding the Powerful Yet Incompetent, Thursday, Third Period

"The king has decided to commission a series of tapestries depicting himself performing the legendary and heroic deeds of others," Yennefer said. "That money is getting spent despite all of your best efforts. The key words, however, for our current concern are 'of others.' He wants to take pictorial credit for the actions of some of his notable nobles' family members: one duke's great-grandfather who allegedly slew a dragon, another's father driving out the elves to clear new farmland for his people. If word of this gets out, or if heavens forbid the tapestries get made, it could cause...some friction. His Majesty's argument?"

Yennefer clicked a button on her remote, and the king said, "But they are my accomplishments! They're the accomplishments of my country, therefore they're mine!"

"I'm not sure that's how that works," Yennefer told him, and paused him again before he could reply. To her students, she said, "Your assignment is to convince him to at least come up with some whoppers that no one can prove he didn't do." Perhaps he could tell the story of the events in the tapestries to people in a way that involved people calling him 'sir' a lot with tears in their eyes.
